I have a movie folder on one drive, and want to move some of them to a movie folder on another drive. Typically when I do this they end up showing up in on the home screen as newly added. How do I avoid them showing up as new? Thank you for any assistance!
The short of it is:
- disable automatic emptying the trash
- copy the data to the new location
- add the new location and let Plex re-scan the library
- items should now show as duplicates
- remove the files from the old location
- re-scan the library – if required manually trigger
Empty Trash
Edit: If your library is using an older agent / hasn’t been updated for some time you might want to refresh metadata before doing this. Otherwise you might end up with the newly added items being associated with a new agent ID that’ll not match the old one and therefore show as a new item again

How can that happen?
Plex removed the duplicate badge - so most people won’t have any idea if the movies are duplicates or not, will they?
- should read:
When the files have copied and Plex stops working on the copy (the disks stop turning, the gears stop whirring) - you can ‘Assume’ everything is duplicated (and hope to all that is holy it has been).
They’re still duplicates – you can filter for them or you can double-check the versions field in on the details page. No reason to hijack another thread with this discussion.
