I have two old dead plex servers, every time I remove them they come back. When I delete them from a web page on my PC they go away but they still show in the plex app on my phone and Nvidia shield. Is there a way to permanently delete them forever so they don’t come back?
Yes, when I delete the server from a windows browser I go in and delete the old servers from the authorized devices list and then it’s gone from the web browser. But on my Nvidia shield and my android phone it still shows those dead servers. So if I try to “reclaim” the server then go back to the web browser to delete it it tells me the server can’t be reached but I can delete it and the authorized devices comes back so I have to remove it there too. And the process repeats itself.
I think I got one of the servers gone. Tonight I removed my recent active server that was a hard drive plugged into my Nvidia shield. It came back at first but now that one seems to be gone. The one that keeps coming back was my original server. I had it setup as a hard drive plugged into my Nvidia shield and one night a few months ago it just disconnected on itself and wouldn’t come back up so I was forced to create a new server so that original one was never originally deleted but it keeps coming back.
So I don’t know what to do to get it gone for good. I only need my 1 active server that’s working with my NAS, I’d really like to get the dead server gone but I don’t know how.
If I were to delete my plex account (tied to my main email) and create a new one under my secondary email, can I then change that email on the new account to my main email after the original account is deleted? Or will that bring the dead server with it?
The problem is not your account. Your account has no old servers in it anymore.
The problem is the Android app. For some reason it still has those old servers cached.
Try uninstalling, restarting, then reinstalling the Android Plex client app.
I did that already too. I even did a factory reset of that Nvidia shield where I plugged in my hard drive and created that original server and it still comes back. It has to be something with my account.
What happened was several months ago that original server became unreachable and I don’t know why. So back then I had deleted Plex on my Nvidia shield and started a new server with that same hard drive but I gave it a different name. I have since removed that second server and it’s gone because I now have my data on a NAS. But that original server keeps coming back on all my devices. So I don’t believe the problem lies on my devices. it has to be something with my account. Are you saying there’s now way to fix this problem?
Are you certain that your shield currently only has the Plex client installed, and not additionally the server? They’re two separate apps. I’d check that in the Play Store app.
So it was installed becuase I had another server that I deleted last night but then I uninstalled Plex media server app and it was still showing that “dead” server.
Then I went into my office where I have another Nvidia shield and removed that plex media server app and now I don’t see any “dead” servers.
Now, my second Nvidia shield NEVER had a server setup on that but is that why I was seeing what I thought was a “dead” server?
