I have 2 versions of the same movie (Logan, Logan - Noir). When I load both files in Plex it shows both merged into 1 playback file. If i place my mouse over the movie in my PMS library there’s a “2” in the upper left hand corner but I can’t select it. Is there a way to break this out so that I can see both movies separately OR how can i choose to play 1 file over the other?
Some Plex clients have a ‘Play Version’ command.
But that is not made for different ‘editions’ or ‘cuts’ on movies.
Go to the preplay page of the movie,
click on the ellipsis ( . . . )
‘Split’
If your client/device supports ‘Stacked Movies’ hitting the lower of the two play buttons will allow you to select a version. This is a pretty bad way to go though. Plex doesn’t play well with Stacked Movies.
You can ‘Split’ (under the dots while at the Pre-Play Screen) ‘Merged’ Movies into two separate items (there’s probably a ‘Logan Noir’ poster you can select too), but again - Plex pretty much sucks at playing Merged or Split movies - but it’s 6 of one and half-dozen of another.
For this particular item you can maintain the original - then pick up the remote and lower the color saturation on the TV. There you go. Noired It.
In this way you can ‘Noir’ anything you have. The benefits of ‘Noiring’ Avatar, for instance, remain to be seen. You can really go ‘Noir’ and smear Vaseline around the edges of your TV for the ultimate effect, but that’s a little harder to get off of your TV Screen than it is for the glass plates they use on the sets when creating these ‘special cinematic moments’.
