I have created multiple collections, and I have a large one called “Marvels Collection” which is all the marvel movies. I have set up the collection to sort by release order, thus all users will see it in release order as intended. The challenge… how can this be played in that order, as this is what would be expected from the UI, thus the experience isn’t what one would expect.
Is there something that can be done on the PMS so they will play in that order, or what does the user need to do in their player?
Server Version#: 1.15.1.710
Player Version#: N/A as this would be ANY type of player on any platform.
Yes. sorry that wasn’t clear. The display order is not the same as the play order. Would be nice if it were (that is… the movies will play in the order the user sees)
I have experienced the same thing. It Use to work and not doesn’t anymore. Have any of you received any answer on this, because I love this feature when it’s working properly
you could make it a smart playlist from a custom filter…
filter by collection = MCU
sort by release date
create playlist
The playlist will have a little gear next to its poster/cover and should automatically include all new additions matching the criteria in the right order.
Thank you for confirming the problem I discovered.
The solution being discussed around playlists seems to be a “band-aid” and not a fix. The app provides a “collections” which is can be seen by all users, and has the ability to set the collection order. Fixing that is the correct fix.
Working on a playlist, then figuring out a way to have it shared, or be smart is a lot of work placed on the server operators, and not all good for the user experience (like my wife, and son).
Sorry that I have nothing helpful to add, but just to confirm the same issue. I ripped the “Treasure from American Film Archives” 4-DVD set and made a collection of the 50 short films. I’d love to watch them in chronological order, but it defaults to alpha when I click ‘Play’. (at least I’m keeping the topic alive until we get a response…)
Having the same issue. Hope a fix will be released soon as if you have it set to sort by release as opposed to alphabetical it should absolutely play in that order.
Just started trying to watch a new movie series and I am having this issue now too.
I watched the Fast and Furious and Harry Potter movie collections a few months ago (I run through the HPs pretty regularly) and it played them like expected, by release date. Now everything plays in alphabetical.
I share my server with my family (to their own accounts) so just creating playlists isn’t an option since playlists aren’t shared.
Would love to have this functionality fixed. Harry Potter is tiresome to binge by going into collection to click play on next title in series. Alpha starts with Crimes I. But gets mixed up chronically when the Harry’s start. Please fix this Plex.
I have the same issue with Godzilla collection.
Sometimes it even defaults to alpha when viewing the collection. If I go from Godzilla (1954) to the collection Godzilla (Showa) it defaults to alpha.
Meanwhile if I select the Collection from the library itself it is set on release order.
Maybe these issues are related?
Theoretically we could always add ALPHA characters to the beginning of the title to match the release date. However this would involve a great deal of tedious changing of metdata on the server host side. As others have said it would be nice for this to work, even more so would be GREAT if in the advanced section under edit for a collection of the server host could even input different viewing options, i.e. if you wanted star wars to be available in 3 ways - theatrical, chronological, machete- there are other collections that would have similar viewing order choices.
