Server Version#:4.5.1.3
I understand about how to properly name a video.
I want to know if there is a way, using android app, to play a video which is located in a directory containing plex media files but which hasn’t been identified by Plex
I understand it won’t have any data regarding description, cast, rating etc. I want the ability to play unmatched files. In other words a list of file names without metadata.
To avoid answering questions. I automatically transfer and encode files from my tivo (kmttg) I use a naming template which is consistent with plex requirements. Data such as episode number is sometimes missing. I want the ability to watch those programs when I don’t have the ability to go to my server and manually fix the file name to include missing elements.
You better actually avoid using the Plex-conform naming schema for tv shows, if you want your files to appear in this library.
(Because an “Other Videos” library is actually a “Movies”-type of library [just without the metadata matching]. And as such it will ignore video files with a file name which looks like a tv show episode.)
Most of them will have correct naming. I was looking for a way to play the videos in the folder which don’t have correct naming I won’t know in advance which videos will have correct naming and which ones won’t.
I can deal with putting them all in an other folder and not having metadata matching for any video if that’s the only way to display ignored files.
Can I have the same directory listed twice in plex, once for tvshows and once for other?
(Screenshot taken from the Mac-App, dunno, if there is such a feature in the Android app. On IOS, it is also possible to use the “unmatched” filter.)
Unfortunately, it seems, with the WebApp and MacApp on a TV-Library you cannot create a “smart” playlist out of the filter, as you can do it in a movies library.
Luckily, on IOS, u can create a “smart” filter, so you might be able to create such a playlist on your Android device.
OttoKerner–Other does the trick. I tried using the same folder as both TV Shows and other. before reading your follow up post. It seems to work but based on your follow up post I’ll delete my other and set it up in a new folder.
FlexiPlexi–I tried using unmatched before I started this thread. A show which is identified as a TVSHOW but can’t be matched because the season /episode data is wrong can be watched. A show which is unmatched because it’s not even clear if it’s a TV Show, series and episode is completely missing, can’t be watched.
What I’d like is the ability to watch an unmatched show but treat it as other. A completely unknown type of video.
Unless I get a better suggestion I’ll have all automatically videos placed in an exclusive other directory. I’ll forgo attractive meta data presentation in favor of being able to watch everything. I’ll later move any video I want to keep, after correcting file name as necessary.
Thanks for your help. I’m moving in the right direction.
I don’t know if Plex programmers follow these forums. A suggestion is to allow any unmatched video to be played when selecting unmatched.
