Other Videos by Folder

Server Version#: 1.32.1.6999

I set up a new ‘Other Videos’ type library and added a folder that contains what I consider to be music videos with folders named as the artist and containing videos relevant to that artist. There is no library type that can specifically handle this, but ‘Other Videos’ libraries should list everything and if I view by Folder, I will see the list of artists folders and be able to click one to see the videos contained therein. Not ideal, but the best currently available. However…

Some videos simply do not show up, whether viewing by Folders or by Movies. This makes no sense to me as the ‘Other Videos’ type library is specifically for use of videos that cannot be matched and therefore Plex simply just includes everything. So no matter what my folder structure, ALL videos within the library’s specified folder should be found and displayed by Plex. However, they are not.

Most are but for example I have 9 videos in the folder named ABBA. Also 2 sub folders (album names) which each contain a single video that CAN be seen. However, when first setting up this library, only 5 of the videos in the ABBA folder were visible. I corrected the name of one and re-scanned and it disappeared. So only 4 now showing. I edited some other filenames and now after a re-scan, only 2 (out of 9) videos are displayed in the ABBA folder and if I switch to viewing by Movie, they cannot be found.

I can see nothing in the naming of these that might cause a problem and in any case, an ‘Other Videos’ library should surely show EVERYTHING. Isn’t that the point. It does no matching and simply shows what’s there, WHATEVER the name. In particular, when I am viewing by Folder, Plex (PMS) should simply show the list of folders and then when clicked, EVERYTHING that is in that folder.

Why is it ‘filtering’ the videos it will display? I am using this library type as that should be doing no filtering. How is it filtering? On what? How can I simply make it show everything?

I am fully aware of the naming requirements of PMS and adhere to those for all other libraries, but am using this library type specifically as it should have no such requirements. An ‘Other Videos’ type library should show EVERYTHING, whatever the name, should it not? Especially when viewing by Folder.

I moved the ABBA folder out of that main library folder, re-scanned (it was now not showing), emptied trash, added ABBA back into library folder, re-scanned and it was now showing again, but clicking into that folder still only shows 2 of the 9 videos.

Anyone enlighten me on what’s going on here?

It very much looks to me like it is ignoring any video whose name ends in ‘-behindthescenes’, whereas the other ‘types’, such as ‘-live’, ‘-concert’ etc seem to get picked up.

So the big question is why are ‘-behindthescenes’ videos being excluded from an ‘Other Videos’ type library?

Not only should the name be irrelevant in this type of library, but why just that type while having no problem with the other types?

The library is just using the defaults when it was created as an ‘Other videos’ type library and the Scanner is ‘Plex Video Files Scanner’ and the Agent is ‘Personal Media’ which must be the defaults for this library type.

I can verify this behavior. I just renamed one of my video files by adding ‘-behindthescenes,’ and it was removed from my Other Videos library when I scanned. When I reverted that change and scanned again, it was re-added to the library. So I think you’ve found a bug.

Thanks. A relief that it’s not just me. :slightly_smiling_face:

Since Plex employees never seem to frequent these forums, how are we supposed to report bugs like this?

This forum is all we have. They’re around, but they’re not always very good at responding (which is a long-standing discussion).

So how about I ping @BigWheel and see if I can get any response. This is clearly a malfunction that needs to be addressed and to be honest, those suffering from it need to be updated as to the progress of any fix.

I have to add more weight to the argument that there is an appalling lack of connection from paying customers to the company responsible. Every software company must provide some level of support and a sensible and functional bug reporting and tracking system, yet let’s be honest, Plex provide neither.

I’ve been a Plex Pass holder for many years now and I really want to continue to be a Plex user, but this aspect of the Plex team’s behaviour is truly not acceptable.

So let’s add another @BigWheel.

Thanks for report

Thanks for the response. :slightly_smiling_face:
