I inadvertently deleted my laptop as the authorized device on my plex server. If I delete Plex and re-install it, Plex doesn’t show my laptop in “authorized devices”. How can I re-add it to authorized devices? I am stumped .
Making this public, as there is no private information.
If you removed your Plex Server from the list of Authorized Devices, then it is in an unclaimed state.
You need to re-claim the server.
If you are on the same system where Plex Media Server is installed:
- Make sure Plex Media Server is running
- Using a incognito/private window, go to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web or http://localhost:32400/web.
- You should be prompted to login to your plex account and claim the server.
If you are on a different system than where PMS is running, follow the same steps, but point the browser at http://pms_ip_address:32400/web, using the actual IP address of the Plex server. You do need to be on the same network as the server to claim it (i.e. no remote connections, VPNs, etc).
If you did this, you must perform this procedure: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/
The above method only works if you used the “Sign Out” button under Settings - Server - General
The “Why am I locked out…” procedure will definitely work, but I did not have to use it.
I deleted my test server from Authorized Devices without signing out.
I pointed a browser at it and was able to login and re-claim the server.
My test server runs on a Synology NAS, not Windows, and I did not restart/reinstall/etc between removing it and reclaiming it. I removed it, then reclaimed it ~30 sec later. Maybe that makes a difference?
Anyway, thanks for linking in the support document, as that process will definitely work.
If your server is running when you remove it from authorized devices, you do not need to perform the locked out procedure since your server will be signaled that it got removed and will correctly unclaim itself and remove the appropriate setting.
Only if it’s removed while the server is off, then the procedure is needed, since the server wouldn’t have known it was removed so it’s in that limbo state of thinking it’s claimed but with an invalid token.
Thanks for the clarification.
Thanks guys! I followed FordGuy6’ suggestions and they worked.
I know this is a separate issue, but I am now trying to import videos with VOB extension. I have them on an external drive.
Example:
F:\cc contains a number of movies… I try to import them as “other videos” The activity indicator spins and nothing happens. The display shows 0 librries. Any suggestions
Don’t. VOB is not really supported. There is also no good reason to keep the files in the VOB container. VOB is much less well supported by players and related software.
If you only have one file per movie, simply drag the vob file into MKVtoolnixGUI and remux it into an MKV container.
If you have several vob files per movie (i.e. basically the contents of a VIDEO_TS folder from a DVD), then use makemkv to create the MKV.
Both processes are lossless. There is no change in quality.
