How to remotely connect from iPhone

OK, having some trouble understanding how Plex Pass works. I have a couple of kids and they have Plex on their iPhones. When they’re not at my home I’d like them to have access to my Mac’s Plex server. I have set up a user name and 4 digit passcode for one of them to test. But how can she “find” my Plex server if she’s on WiFi at her mom’s home?

First you’ll need enough upstream for your internet connection. It depends on the content you have. For example I’ve some TV Series (1080p) with 8 Mbit/s up to 18 Mbit/s and some 4k with up to 40 Mbit/s. (But you can scale that down for remote streaming which required transcoding but at least you’ll need more than ~5 Mbit/s for a decent quality)

Second: You’ll need to open the Plex ports in your Router so you can access from the Internet to your Plex Server.

And third: AFAIK you can only access remotly when you have a plex accound but not sure on this point.

Thanks for the reply. I guess it must be #2 because Plex Server says it’s not set up for external streaming. What’s weird is I can access it from my iPhone using my Plex log in credentials even if I’m on LTE.

Not sure what happened, but it “magically” has connected to the outside world. Didn’t change anything. Weird.
