How to save edited Titles when moving folders?

Hello!
So I have ran into this twice and it is quite burdensome, so i’m hoping someone can provide some help… Say I have a folder with a lot of movies or tv shows in it, by default they have horrible long file names which I don’t want to see in plex, so I edit each one and change the Titles to what I want them to have. This is fine and good, however if say I rename the physical folder on my hard drive or move the folder, and then readd the folder in plex, when plex scans the folder and readds all the items all those custom Titles are gone.

Is there a way to keep the custom updated titles? Backup and restore them? Or get around having to redo them all?

Thanks!

Can you share an example of your folder structure and how you rename your files?
For Plex‘ agents to work and properly match the movie/show, you’re supposed to follow their naming conventions… this should then result in Plex showing the actual movie title (not the file name)… from your post it seems like you’re getting your videos as a flat list of file names but miss out on the titles and the remaining metadata which allows organizing/filtering/sorting of your content in Plex.

Hi Tom,
You are probably right as I have long file name with stuff like the resolution, etc in it. I followed that movie link and tried renaming some of the files to the syntax “MovieName (release year).ext” however after a rescan Plex still shows the filename…

Also to note, my issue is only with movies. Tv shows seem to be found and named correctly by Plex.

Ah found the issue, it was the embedded metadata, I had to move the LMA down as described here:

That then let the new correctly named files stay, and not revert to the metadata.
