When modifying/updating a video file the whole folder will vanish from plex

Server Version#:1.32.0.6973-7000

I’ve been having issues with my TV show collection. As an example I have some VCD’s that I encoded over to MKV a few years ago, Record of Lodoss War. I purchased Topaz video AI and have been re-encoding the video stream to a higher rez using H.265.
The issue is that when I replace the original video with the modified/updated mp4 the whole series vanishes from Plex.
I have been able to get it back by switching the scanner engine. It asks me to update the database and then scans. It finds it immediately. It’s there and I can play ALL the videos just fine.
As soon as I modify any other file it happens again. The whole series just vanishes.
Anyone ever see this before?

File names and folder structure.
What worked years ago may not work anymore with the newer agent, which is stricter in some aspects.

Yep! I’m seeing this too. I’m trying to fix a folder issue with file names and the folder will disappear. I have to restore the names to the old structure just to see them pop up again.

Please show the original names and then the new names (including structure)

ALSO: Please be aware: Title / Name info is extracted from MP4 files. If those names are incorrect or junk the match will fail. The best solution, if using MP4, is to leave the Title fields empty and let the filename guide the matching.

I think that might have been it… It’s working now THANK YOU!!
I went from
A:\TV\Record of Lodoss War (1990)
to
A:\TV\Record of Lodoss War (1990) {tvdb-78777}

Video files went from
A:\TV\Record of Lodoss War (1990)\Record of Lodoss War - se01e07.mkv
to
A:\TV\Record of Lodoss War (1990) {tvdb-78777}\Record of Lodoss War - Ep. 07 - The War of Heroes.mp4

I guess it depends on the video and how easy a match it is as I’ve done the same to others and they have a naming convention similar to the FIRST examples above and not like the final fixed examples and those videos/folders don’t vanish.
Ugh… It grates me though that it’s actually found, recognized and listed after you reset the folder search engine or delete the complete folder the tv video files are stored in… UNTIL you modify a file in the folder (re-encode from mkv to mp4 at higher rez)… why does modifying a file cause it to lose the folder it had already recognized… (before isolating the issue to naming convention as it doesn’t do it anymore)

It should be the other way around. It won’t work that way (for long).
This is a TV show. ロードス島戦記 - TheTVDB.com
Therefore it belongs into a library of the type “TV shows”.
And the naming schema for tv shows is laid down here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/
You are also missing a Season xx folder.

Only add A:\TV to your library.
Not just A: and not A:\TV\Record of Lodoss War (1990) {tvdb-78777} either
