So, im about to try out 3D for the first time on my benq w1400 projector. And for that im obviously using plex.
But im a little unsure on how to set things up for that on plex.
any help would be appreciated!
not sure what kind of info you need to help me out, but here goes.
Viewing with: BenQ W1400 Projector (Active 3D Playback, Active Shutter 3D)
Connected to: Onkyo TX-NR636 (3D Video Pass-through)
Playing with: OpenPHT (and PMS ofc. Im always at the latest versions available for non-plexpass user)
Cables: At the moment im using a Supra HF100 HDMI-cable, so im pretty sure i have to buy a new one.
Ok, so theres no way of making Plex just pass-through it and letting the projector decide which output it should use?
Im thinking as i have full discs that is able to play as both SBS and OU. it would be nice to just switch between the modes in the projector.
if i rename the files i guess it will be locked/forced to play in the output i renamed it to?
As far as I know, yes. I mean you have to encode the file one way or another anyways, no? I am fairly certain the discs have multiple versions of the video to switch modes like that. There is nothing in the meta data for the file to indicate that it is one or the other unless I am overlooking it.

sorry, but im not sure i understand what you mean.
Why would i encode it? Its a full blu-ray disc as an .iso. no need to encode.
and yes, the disc is capable of playing as both SBS and OU, thats why i want to be able to choose that by myself and not naming the files so plex chooses for me and propably locks it so i cant change which way the 3d is sent (sbs or ou) other than renaming the file again…
oh, i thought i could play .iso in plex. guess ill have to find another player then.
not gonna encode (lose quality) just to be able to play it in plex.
why dont you just read what i wrote one more time before you answer…
i said “just to be able to play it in plex”. didnt mention anything about plex making the quality worse.
i said encoding made it worse.
and what you are talking about is half-sbs or half-ou.
and one last question. the two settings in plex regarding stereoscopic 3d
“playback mode of stereoscopic 3d videos”
“stereoscopic 3d mode / current”
Emby can play ISOs so that might be your only Plex-like option for now until they add that feature or if they do. There are lots of players that can do it, but they are nothing like the Plex/Emby client/server setup.
actually im just looking for something that can play 3d iso. and does it well. doesnt have to be some htpc setup like plex. just some good mediaplayer like powerdvd would do.
