How to start detecting Intros in TV Shows?

Hello - I installed all my tv series on a new NAS server and lost all my Intros. Is there a possibility to bring them back?

Thx, Michael

On series that you are currently watching, trigger “Analyze” manually on the first episode of each season.

All others leave to the Plex Butler and its nightly maintenance sweep.
You could extend the length of that maintenance period for a few weeks, to speed up processing a bit.

P.S. the analysis might take significantly longer when performed by a typical NAS device. These units usually have a CPU that is selected to be sufficiently fast for typical “NAS tasks”, but not necessarily for media analysis.

Thank you for your help - works perfectly. My NAS has 32 GB of Memory (standard is 8) and I find the speed of analysis not too bad. Since the action starts immediately whenever I invoke it, I am not forced to do it for the whole library in one batch.

BTW - is there a way to change the info language for individual shows downloaded in the default language? I have mostly English shows ripped from my DVDs, but some are in German and should have the title and info accordingly.

Thx again - M.

The Butler won’t do it either in one batch. Just always a few per night over several weeks, until it’s done.

Go to the top level of the show (most easy by clicking on the show’s title), then “edit” it. The metadata language setting is on the Advanced tab.
You might have to “Refresh Metadata” afterwards for the whole show.

Works with movies as well.

Thanks again. I did not realise the power of the advanced options. I often copied the info from the tvdb manually. I cannot appreciate this info enough!

There are lots of things buried in the GUI. In fact, Plex is meanwhile a rather complex app with many, many features. I like it a lot, but even after some years of using it, I have still to learn and find a lot.

Since I transferred my libraries to the UGreen NAS, many things have to be updated. F.e. earlier with my Drobo, I could use the Web interface. This does not work, since it complains about non secure connection to the NAS. The Plex App accepts the connection as local and all is running. The Web interface could be simply reloaded - the App seems not to have that feature.

Best regards - M.

Accessing the web app should still work, if you don’t “force” secure connections in the server settings.

It is normal and expected that you get a warning by your browser when you open this URL. Because an IP can’t get a security certificate assigned to it. And this certificate is used by the browser to verify that you are not by accident on an imposter website.
But this check is destined to fail when accessing your server by its local IP address.

I understand. just used the procedure successfully.

Thanks - I am now some steps further.

Next things to get working is to make a connection to the NAS server from abroad via the internet over my Fritzbox! and to access the server from my Vision Pro. The iPad app for Plex runs well, but I would like to use the native App Aurora. For the time being I can’t load the server into it.

Many thanks again for your valuable tipps. I learned a lot today! M.

Hello Otto -

I am stuck with a problem into the docker installation on my UGREEN NAS - hopefully you have some advice for me:

All is running so far perfectly thanks to your tipps. Now, I would like to bring a new library for Music Videos into the existing Plex container. I tired to add it from within the web interface, but I can’t go beyond the paths of the new folder. Three of them wren installed during the initial installation process, but until now, I get only an empty folder message meaning the folder is not recognised.

Is it necessary to change the initial docker container for that task? What would be the required paths? I did not find a tutorial for that in the internet.

Thanks for help - Michael

Sorry, I am not a Linux person. Apart from some generic tips I cannot tell you how to achieve anything in Docker.
I seem to remember that you are supposed to map “real” storage volumes/paths to container volumes/paths somehow.
And the access permissions to these have to be suitable as well. That’s about all I know about Docker.

Thank you anyway. Still some research necessary…

Michael

Addendum: I found a valid solution: first I make a clone of the original Plex container. After deactivating it, I select manage (bearbeiten in German) and click the button on top again. Then I can add every folder like I did in the first configuration. After that I start the new container and import the folder by creating a new library. Quite easy.

Perhaps my description here may help some other newbies.
