How to stop notifications in Windows Plex app

I am not and never have been subscribed to the newsletter, but today for the first time I was bothered by the appearance of a ‘3’ against my account icon in Windows Plex app. Turned out to be unwanted notifications about Plex’s ad-filled releases, which I do not want to watch (I use Plex to escape adds).

Is there any way of stopping this unwelcome new ‘feature’?

Exactly which app is this.
There are a lot of variants.

As far as I know there is only a single desktop Windows 10 application, the media player downloaded from the Plex site (not obtained via Windows Store). It is that one.

The notice for new announcements also appears in the Plex Web client.

It is not new. The notices have always been there. Once you view the announcement page (not the actual annoucement) the notice no longer appears.

As you can see by the dates on the announcements, they occur every few months. There have been three this year. There were two for all of 2020.

I am not aware of a way to disable it.

A little off-topic, but it’s odd that I also recently got that little ‘3’ next to my avatar a few days ago, even though two of the 3 most recent announcements were released in March. Why didn’t I get a ‘1’ or ‘2’ back then?
