I had a Plex media server I was running many years ago, that I unfortunately had to stop running. It’s now 4 years later, I have a new server box and I’m starting it all up again.
My issue now, is that I see my old media libraries are still shared with users, and I can’t figure out how to remove them. Is there a way for me to “un-share” them without making each user manually leave the old decommissioned server?
In Plex Web, go to Settings > Authorized Devices.
If it’s a long list, you can click the dropdown that says “All” and select “Server” to filter the list.
You should now see both your old and new servers listed.
Click the red ‘X’ on the old server and remove it.
Thanks for the response beckfield, but the old server isn’t listed in there, only the current/new one.
From my understanding though, that wouldn’t un-share the old non-existent libraries from my friends.
you may want to double check if you had a different plex account on your old server.
if so, you would need to log in to the old account, to remove it.
alternatively, just tell your friends to ‘leave your server’ to remove it from their clients.
It’s definitely the same account, as I can see that I have libraries shared with them, but when I go to verufy what libraries are shared, it shows just the current server with none shared. I’ll try to attach a picture.
I’m worried that telling them to manually do it is the only option. (family that I have this shared with are amazingly bad with anything tech related)
I was seeing this behavior once and eventually noticed the plexmediaserver services were still running on the old box. The server did not show up in the authorized devices etc… but they were still running.
After I fixed that… I found that any pinned library items from the old server still remained (and caching evidently allowed the graphics to display etc)… I had to go in and unpin every library item attached to the old server to get it to go away. If you leave the old items there… the client app would hang trying to access the server that is no longer running… SOooo frustrating… as I now it looks like I need to make the sidbar pin adjustments on every device I have … ugh…
