How to store live TV recordings to HDHomerun DVR

Server Version#:1.23.4.4712
Player Version#:
I have an HDHomerun Scribe DVR. I set it up as a DVR in Plex (I have the Plex Pass subscription). Plex recognizes it, I have the tuner set up and the channels all show up as I expected.

When I set it up I did it from my Windows 10 laptop and designated it as the server, not sure if that was the right thing to do.

When I go to a live TV show under Live TV and DVR and I try to record a show it says I need to specify a folder. The only place it allows me to setup a folder is on the C: drive of my laptop. There is no option to make a folder on my HDHomre DVR. How to I accomplish this? I’m sure there’s a way or there would be no point in having a 1TB hard drive in my DVR.

You cannot save your recordings to the HDHR. It doesn’t have a drive to save. You need to have libraries for the type of video you are saving (movie and/or tv shows). The locations used for those libraries is where the DVR saves to.

Then what is the point of having the HDHomerun? My TV can tune the channels with the external antenna.

But your TV can’t get the data to your computer to save. That’s what the HDHR does. It allows your computer to save the stream.

Sorry, for the stream of dumb questions. Why can’t the HDHR just record to it’s own hard drive though?

It doesn’t come with a hard drive.

Yes, mine has a 1 TB hard drive

What model is it. I didn’t think any HDHR devices had a drive.

Ah. The HDHR Scribe does have it’s own internal drive. I did not know about this. That only works with it’s own DVR program. Plex does not have access to it.

Edit - I’m not familiar enough with that device, but if the storage on that box can be accessed normally from a computer, then you could setup your Plex Media Server to create your libraries there and then it could get saved there as well.

Alright, thanks for the info. I’m glad I only paid for the one month Plex Pass service.
