How to turn on DTS, DTS-HD, Dolby, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos in Plex Media Player?

Hi guys,

So simple question → How do I turn on DTS-HD and Dolby Atmos and other audio formats in Plex Media Player on Windows?

And yess I have a 5.1 receiver. And yes it has DTS-HD and yess the movie what i’m playing supports DTS-HD.
When I play this movie with another player, my denon receiver jumps to DTS-HD. With plex media player it stays in “multi in” mode , because it doesn’'t receive DTS.

I know that in Plex Home Theater you could turn DTS and Dolby on. But this app is not longer supported. If you look for it, you can still find it on google. But I don’t like it.

So where can I find this in Plex Media player app in windows?

I’ve tried Plex media player from the windows 10 Store. And also i’ve tried the desktop version of Plex Media Player. Both of them don’t give DTS or Dolby. It has to be some setting.

Can’t imagine i’m the only one with this problem.

Settings > Audio > tick all the boxes that apply. You need to choose an Device Type other than Basic.

Thanks for you replay. Where can I find “Settings - Audio”. Don’t see that? Is it in the windows 10 plex App or the desktop version? Either way, In both programs I don’t see it. If I go to settins, I can choose “web” - “Server” - “User” - “Devices”. In non of those taps I can find anything about “Audio”. The only thing I can find about audio is in; “Web” --> “Player”. And then I can thick some boxes about; “Direct stream” or “Direct play” or Multi-Channel audio boost. But that’s all.

It’s in the top right where your user icon is. Instead of Switch Users, you select Settings.

You posted this thread in the Plex Media Player forum and this doesn’t apply to the web UI within PMP currently. This interface: https://downloads.plex.tv/plexmediaplayer/1.2.2.555-d1355001/PlexMediaPlayer-1.2.2.555-d1355001-windows-x64.exe

If you are definitely running Plex Media Player, hit Shift+F11 to switch to TV mode.

Wow !! That did it  Shift + F11, Then indeed I could click on “Settings” - “Audio”, choose HDMI and thick all the supported sound filters.

Thank you very much !!

Thanks again! This was the solution. Quick question; this is only possible in the desktop version plex media player? Isn’t it?

I also gave it a try into the plex media player windows 10 app. But there it doesn’t jump to tv mode with Shift + F11. Or is it an other shortcut than shift + F11?

PMP is the only interface that has a dual-UI functionality as far as I know. The Win 10 app is a completely separate project.

I only know about the desktop version of PMP - haven’t dabbled with embedded or anything.

PMP != Windows 10 app. That is just Plex for Windows or what have you. Plex Media Player is only the .exe I linked in your quote.

ok  thank you! It’s working great with the plex media player app now. I use my TV as an extend Desktop. So on my TV I’ve launched the plex media player. So when i’m on my sofa, I just turn on my TV, and when I launch my plex application on my phone, I can easily launch my movie and let it play on the connected TV. So everyone can keep using the PC. It’s like a second PC  works great! And with dts-hd and everything

Thanks a lot for your help !!

According to this answer, I selected all that apply. Enabled specifically DTS.
But the info (i) screen still shows “Setting- DTS (DCA): false”

the movie has a DTS audio stream and I select it on PMP.

Media info confirms it is DTS as following info.
Format : DTS
Format/Info : Digital Theater Systems
Format profile : MA / Core
Codec ID : A_DTS

My receiver is a Yamaha RX-V667 which support DTS.

But, I see that PMP is buffering this movie. Does it mean that it transcodes ?
Even if it is a local file, why does it transcode ?
is DTS supported even if there is transcoding ?

Open the web app and look at
Settings -Status - Dashboard
activate the detail view

This’ll tell you if it is transcoding and what.

Is your AVR connected to your computer with a HDMI cable?
In which order are computer, tv and avr connected to each other?

AVR is connected with an HDMI cable to the computer. Also connected to the TV.
SO the order is PC->AVR-> TV

how can I stop transcoding if it is ?

Have you looked at the Dashboard in the web app?

what do you mean by web app ?
I am using windows 10 plex media player.

This is the web app: app.plex.tv
it looks just like the ‘desktop mode’ of the PMP.

ok I know this interface but what is the relation with PMP ?
and I could not find the menu you mentioned. where is it ?

I have the feeling that we are talking about different things.
Could you make a screenshot of the app you are using?

Please play the movie in PMP.
At the same time, additionally open the web app and go to the Dashboard.

ok. it seems it is not transcoding:

Plex Media Player — MEDIASERVER

Playing—0:33 / 2:29:21

Video

1080p (H.264)

Direct Play

Audio

English (DTS-HD MA 7.1)

Direct Play

in this case, why does it show “DTS false” ?

Where does it show this?

it shows DTS false in the info screen (when I click the (i) icon on the player)
and also my receiver does not show DTS symbol.
