Hundreds of MEDIA-XXXX.TS files in PlexMediaServer Directory - what are they?

Server Version#: 1.25.6.5577
Player Version#: Not relevant

I’m trying to understand the purpose of the hundreds of files named media-XXXX.TS that I’m finding in the /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/ directory.

They all end in a number - example media-01729.ts or media-02178.ts etc…

What are they for?

I’m not exactly sure in what specific subfolder of the server data directory you see those files. My guess is this is chunks of transcoded/optimized media as part of an active stream. Those chunks usually cover a very tiny sequence, therefore you’re seeing so many (e.g. corresponding to the cached / prepared stream segments)

They are showing up in the PlexMediaServer directory

Are these files something that will get cleaned up by PMS as part of a maintenance task? Should I be deleting them?

Plex will usually clean those up latest by the end of a stream or during server maintenance.

no it’s blank.

How old are those files?

Every one of them is dated 2021-12-31

Then I blame the weather

They can safely be deleted
