I am using the package version of PMS (installed directly via SPK from Plex website, not from package centre). According to this post, hardware transcoding with tone mapping works.
However, in my testing, any files with HDR make my Synology choke, its clearly using CPU and not the HW trancoding. To confirm any 1080p or SDR 4k files transcode fine using HW.
Any ideas how I can get this to work? Ideally I’d like to avoid using docker as I’ve already had one unsuccessful attempt, and would prefer to keep using the package version.
Server Version#: 1.32.4.7164
Player Web Version: Version 4.108.0
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>
I can confirm today that I noticed that Hardware Encoding isn’t working on Synology NAS DS1019+
Used to work flawlessly, I did download the version mentioned above but feel a little nervous uninstalling current version in case I lose all libraries etc…
I have Plex server installed via Synology, and manually update to newer versions.
Let me know if I can help with logs etc…
Cheers
PS. Noticed when trying to play a 4K file in our Tesla and it kept buffering. Usually this plays flawlessly. Runs via web browser…
On DSM 6, you can always safely uninstall without loss of server info
On DSM 7, the default (first) radio button, is “uninstall only” (it also keeps all your server info. This is the same behavior as DSM 6 and why it’s the default.
It will erase your server info ONLY when you click the ERASE radio button
Maybe, however even with that saying Uninstall + Keep on DSM7 isn’t an option until you have the balls to hit Uninstall. Maybe the FAQ could be updated to state Hit Uninstall first, then the option to uninstall + keep is there. With the FAQ stating Uninstall + Keep is what you must do and that not being an option at the begging is confusing… and the reason for my post.
Hope this helps others.
PS. To be fair, I hadn’t checked the FAQ, if I did however, I’d still have posted as unsure… I’ve not had to unlstinall anything from DSM before.
The very first page you see is Package Center asking for confirmation if you wish to continue the process
I’ll make a specific FAQ about downgrading but given how DSM works and that Uninstalling PMS on DSM 4, 5, or 6 was never destructive, I made certain it wasn’t destructive on DSM 7 either without expressly requesting it on the first page AFTER package center turns uninstall control over to the package.
