HW transcoding 4K not working

Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488 (but has been like this for atleast version 1.13.0.5023-31d3c0c65, and what i can remember i couple of versions before that)

So, im trying this again since it didnt get solved last time (around may 2018).

HW transcoding 4K videos isnt working, at all.
Not with subtitles,. not without subtitles. And not on any device ive tried it on (nvidia shield, apple tv, iphone web app). And as i said, been like this since may, and way before that (may was just when i got fed up with this â– â– â– â–  and made a post about it)

It just loads, loads and loads (spinning round yellow circle), until the app crashes. Or it actually loads sometimes, but then buffer, buffer and buffer.

The plex server is on a Intel NUC with windows 10 and a I7-7567U CPU and Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650.

Drivers version for the graphics is at the moment 25.20.100.6471. Was on version 24.20.100.6025 when i made the first post. And tried every version since.

BIOS version is BNKBL357.86A.0063

One word for you: logs.

Okay, more than one word: more info about the exact version(s) of the app(s) you’re using.

And last but not least, media info about a file that’s not working.

For Apple devices if you’re using the latest apps, make sure to disable the enhanced player (iOS: tap on user profile, settings, and then advanced settings).

Why would app version matter? Did you even read my post? I had this problem since way before may 2018. That means ALL versions since then.

Is ALL 4k mkv files. Doesn’t matter which.

And I don’t have time to fix logs and stuff. I have a kid and a life to tend to. But I’ll see what I can do. I’ll.try to fix it when I get some spare time.

Besides,I don’t work for free.

If you pay me my usual $150/h consultant fee i can work for you to get it fixed. If not, use the staff at plex that gets paid.

That’s not enough detail. 4K is the resolution, mkv is the container, that says nothing about the video or audio encoding.

Have you tried disabling the enhanced player?

If you don’t want to “work for free” that’s certainly a valid choice; but then you probably don’t want to waste your time posting here either…

I’m pretty sure the enhanced player wasnt around when i noticed that the hw transcoding didn’t work.

Actually im at a point where I think I don’t care anymore. If the plex team will continue to destroy this software its their decision. I can always use other software.

Im actually evaluating emby now. Looks promising. So I might move over to them instead. At least the users get a lot more help/respons there. And the team listens to their users. Here its like taking to a wall.

And if a problem arise the emby team tries to fix it. The plex team just tries to find a way to blame either the user or the users hardware.

But we’ll see how the evaluation turns out.
But don’t have a lot of competition since plex is more useless for every day that passes.
