I call my server Plexy.
I bet i am not the only one.
That’s all.
Plex is still good, but xb1 app needs to be sorted, the buffering/failing thing lol.
Without plex i would never get to see all my stuff in full surround on my xb1x.
I have had offers for plex lifetime at less than half, but by the time i have enough £ the offer is expired lol.
Just realised, this post is just basic chit chat and has no purpose, oops.
that’s all, thanx PLEXY!
We do have a Lounge section for just chit-chat
It is good to be purposeless from time to time just like the “Pointless Forest” is all pointy in the “Land of Point”
Things do not always need a reason or a purpose or a point.
My servers have no names but maybe they should as, at times, my language directed their way can get rather colorful. It would be good to call them by name at those times.
The name I’ve given our primary server is our initials + “Flix” and for my MBP I just call it our initials + “TravelFlix.” Not exactly creative, but from time-to-time I change it just to see if anyone notices
But could that not induce schizophrenia in your servers? After all you would have servers unsure of their own identity and believing they had multiple identities.
That brings up a question I’ve had for awhile. This I guess applies to signing into your Plex account for the first time. You can login with your email/password or your username/password. With the latter, multiple people could share the same account info. So how will plex deal with such an event?
I’ll use @majorzombie for example. 2 people use this very username(Plexy) and coincidentally share the same password. How will Plex know from one person to the next?
No. Plex.tv will prevent you from changing your username to one that is already in use.
Okay. So… Once a username is taken it’s gone forever? I mean it’s far easier to change up your username than your email(within the scope of Plex). How does that work?
What do you mean?
How you change your username?
You go into your account settings and change it.
I meant to say is how a username is used, is it lost to anyone else forever? but now I understand that the username in question is only tied up until that person uses a different username, then the “old” username gets freed up and placed back into the pool of available usernames. This sound correct?
As long as there is a plex account with a certain username, this username won’t be available to other plex accounts.
Precisely.
btw, Thanks Kino!
OMG, 11 replies??
- @Elijah ask your doctor for Largactil, for your umm… servers.
- Plex usernames have to be Unique, so anly 1 of each exist, sort of like every other website.
- Plex server name, does not have to be unique, as you are already logged in with your unique plex name.
thanks.
So I guess that answers the OP question. No, no one else has the name Plexy.
There is no other Plex user with an accoutn name ‘Plexy’.
Whether that is true for server names, I don’t know. It doesn’t matter much because servers are identified internally by a rather long hexadecimal number.
Ahh… I see. Thanks for the info. It all makes sense now.
For a long time I had 2 servers - unRaid and Sage/WMC.
They both got decommissioned 3 years ago

Moving back to Cali and Comcast having all first run shows marked copy-never.
Netflix mostly replaced them. While not having near the TV or Movie collection (which was mostly local rips from DVD/HDDVD/BD or recorded OTA - over 10 years, it amasses)…
I recently have been getting back into the scene. A couple major changes. Instead of full quality rip, I used Handbrade and x264. I remember ripping disks taking hours. On current hardware (i3 and 8 GB RAM), it took 15-20 mins. What was a multi-TB collection is now just over 1 TB.
Hopefully the DVR functionally of Plex gets to a point of being WAF approved.
Its amazing how the scene changes! Always in search of that one mythical box that does everything… Too bad it seems as soon as a company / software starts to do this right, they disappear (IE: SageTV, WMC)…
