I cannot create a plex media server on my pc, have others created on other devices

Server Version#:1.20.4.3508-6abbd541f
Player Version#: Version 4.34.4 but this is about plex media server

I have a plex media server installed on a synology nas, an nvidia shield, and a remote seedbox. All work fine.

I am wanting to use the watch together feature by hosting a movie with a couple of friends and I am skeptical that my NAS has the muscle to do it.

I used to have a plex media server installed on my PC, but I never really used it much so I uninstalled it. That was about 2 years ago.

I downloaded plex media server recently, and it’s running on my pc, but the only thing that happens when I open plex media server on my pc is it opens the web page taking me into plex where I can see the three servers I have on my network, and a friend of mines server.

I have been trying to figure out why I cannot find a way to create a server. I’ve tried closing all of the webapp sessions in the web app and signing in again, but the moment I do it takes me right back to that same view. I am at my wits end here and I’m wondering why I’m having so much trouble. I only recently installed the plex media server on my shield, and I had no problem with that…I don’t understand why I can’t create a server on windows 10. It is not failing to create one or anything, it’s just taking me straight to the web app!

If you used a different plex.tv account back then, you’ll have to do https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/

That did it! Thank you!

Let’s throw another coin into the “uninstalling programs should REMOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THE APP” wishing well!

Bad idea. This would remove all your libraries and metadata, as well as make all your server and library sharings to other users invalid.
Considering how much work and time and computing resources this all can require, it is better to leave them as-is – even if you uninstall the server.

I couldn’t disagree more.

#1 If we’re uninstalling the server and removing it from our computer, we are not using that server or the library, or sharing to other users any longer. Why would we care about those settings months or years later if we reinstall it. IF.

#2 The way it’s implemented now, I couldn’t even access the server, the library sharings, none of that…in any way at all. Without a regedit. That isn’t mentioned in the app at all. There’s not even an option to create a new server, much less how to access a “prior” one. That “work and time and computing resources” was spent, by me…trying to figure out how I could resolve the issue. It was a quick fix once I read the reply of how to resolve it, but there’s absolutely nothing that would point me in that direction.

This is a great illustration of how the end user experience is ignored, simply because it may be a non-issue for someone who knows how to resolve it. It would be nice if there was an option in the settings or edit menu that would have a prompt to steer someone towards an explanation of why they can’t make a new server.
