I cannot log into Plex.tv or pms on my desktop

Server Version#: 1.15.4.919-8e2884e4b
Player Version#:

Plex has been working fine until today. I couldn’t login at all today. I saw that I needed to update but I couldn’t.

I tired uninstalling and reinstalling an old version I had. Still cannot login.

A first I was getting “Plex is not reachable We are unable to connect to Plex.tv at this time. Please try again later.”

Now I’m just getting “This site can’t be reached”

I haven’t changed anything on my computer or router. I had port forwarding for 32400 a long time ago on my router (Google WiFi)

I cleared it and added it again to make sure and still cannot login.

Please help as this is super frustrating!

This is starting to crop up, they are having authentication issues. I got to the point I dis-associated my account with my server… now i cant claim the server because their authentication methods are crap. This kind of storm event keeps happening repeatedly, If the plex servers cant deal with the load, they need to have a bypass option. That of course would mean releasing the reign of control … so that will happen in … oh never. I’m just waiting when they kick everyone off and just try to monitize the plex product with that crackle crap.

The thing is I can login via phone but not desktop to post this topic. Like I’m completely not able to do anything on desktop Plex related.

I’ve flush DNS, force reset on my router. Every other application works fine on my desktop.

@support please help!

Exactly the same issue here, like vinhtvo.

Cannot log in on plex.tv on my windows machine, other devices can. All local resets / flushs failed…

Fun or disturbing fact - not only its not possible to “claim” my server any more, I can’t log in on the Plex website or even get a new download from Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More
I get “Oops, looks like we can’t retrieve downloads at this time, please return later.” message on the website. Tried with different browsers, flushed cookies etc. but no change.
On other computers in my house on the same network the website shows up normal. What the f***?

I’ve been having the same issue.

I also couldn’t even log into the Plex webpage from my server computer. Did anyone else have that issue?

Same issue. Can’t get anything to work on the PC the server is running on, including downloads. On my laptop it can see the server but says I don’t have access, and on the roku tv app everything works perfectly fine.

I downloaded the newest version of Server on my laptop and moved it over the server and installed it, still not able to do anything though. Any ideas on a fix?

I was able to fix it by doing a clean install of Windows again. Its not the ideal fix, but I think it was a combination of Windows latest optional update and PMS update last week. Right after I updated both, I got the issue. No matter what I did (all same steps we all took in this thread) it would not solve the issue.

I wish Plex team would have responded and helped before I did my clean install, but Windows 10 have made it easier now to do so.

Good luck everyone!

@vinhtvo Woof that is not what I wanted to hear.

Did you run a clean install where Windows keeps the files or did you store externally and have Windows start from scratch?

I attempted an install of Windows 10 and it didn’t change anything, but I did a direct upgrade from 7 to 10 so it might have carried over whatever is causing the issues

Not my ideal choice either. Hate that I had to download all my applications again haha.

The hard drives where I store my movies were left alone. I just did a clean install on the main drive.

Hope someone at Plex will respond before more and more users take my route.

Editing hosts file in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and removing my entries for Plex fixed this, as pointed out in the couple other threads for this issue. Turns out my old VPN (PIA), I entered these into the hosts file to bypass VPN with Plex.

Clearing/commenting out Plex entries in the hosts file resolved the issue.

This is the answer you are looking for. Clear out the hosts file and go from there.
