First off plex does not work on google chrome browser so I am using Microsoft edge.
I am trying to attach my 4T hard drive to plex I have done it in the past and it worked fine. But now when I log into my cloud home I click on do more then I click on plex and then click on configure. It brings me to a page that says “using plex” and then I click on “got it” but it keeps bringing to a blank page.
Are you running Plex Media Server on Windows or on the WD NAS?
If on Windows, you will need to mount the desired NAS folders on the PC. In Windows Explorer, right click on This Computer and choose Map Network Drive.
You’ve blackened some of the IP address of the NAS – from the little pieces shining through it looks like you’re accessing that NAS through a public IP address (though I might be mistaken)?
What do you get to see if you open the Plex Media Server via the WD MyCloud Home’s local IP address from within that same network?
The version of Plex Media Server deployed by WD on their MyCloud Home is getting quite dated. PMS version 1.18.6 was released more than 2 years ago… so not sure if there might be some other “signs of aging” creeping in
„Opening the server locally“ refers to opening the server using its local IP address from within the same home network in your browser.
That’s usually an address like http://192.168.1.xxx:32400/web
In your example you’re using what seems to be a public IP address of the WD MyCloud Home. That might work at some point down the road but not before you finished the setup procedure for your Plex Media Server. For that it’s crucial to be inside the same subnet as the PMS and using a RFC 1918 compatible private network (@FordGuy61 had included the common IP bands for RFC 1918 compliant home networks in his previous post).
You don’t. WD are the only ones who can offer those updates and they haven’t deployed a single update in more than two years).
Even if the version is old and won’t give you all features, you should still be able to run/access that server of yours.
I took the device from downstairs (which was plugged into the main modem downstairs) and plugged it into my wireless router upstairs (which supplies WiFi to the house). This fixed the problem and I was able to load the page and complete the setup.
I was surprised this was the problem because I set it up when it was plugged into the main modem before.
WD is in the process of rolling out a new firmware on the My Cloud Home that contains PMS version 1.25.3.5446. I signed up to be pushed to the front of the line. Hopefully, this will roll out to everyone else soon.
