My cloud home will not connect to plex at all

My cloud home will not connect to plex no matter what
I try I have looked though forums and nothing has
Worked my cloud is on and working but will not connect
Just keeps trying to connect with no joy if anyone
Can please help me

You’ll need to be a little bit more specific.
What do you mean by “the WD MyCloud Home will not connect to Plex”?

  • it doesn’t allow you to install Plex?
  • it doesn’t allow you to sign-in on the installed Plex Media Server?
  • you completed a setup but cannot access the Plex Media Server?

Sorry I mean i has it all logged in and working Plex was running fine and then when I went to log into Plex today it just says my cloud server is unavailable and keeps trying to connect

  • from clients within your home network
  • from a browser using the MyCloud Home’s IP address -> http://[WD MyCloud Home IP address]:32400/web

Yes that’s worked and has sent me back to Plex main screen and now there is 2 my cloud servers one is populating my content back in the other is still saying not able to reach is this normal?
So sorry for the dumb questions

This might have happened if you at some point deleted the app and installed a new one. If that’s the case you should be able to remove the „not available“ one by deleting it from the list of authorized devices (be careful not to delete the actual server)

I seem to have a similar problem, at some point (I’m not sure when) my Plex add on to my My Cloud home has disabled. I’ve re-enabled it through the My Cloud Home UI, I can get as far as the configure link but the link does not work, Plex does not seem to be connecting to my My Cloud Home at all.

Considering you’re trying to revive/hijack this old thread… are you looking for assistance?
If so… let’s get in some specifics about your issue. Let’s start with some basics such as:

  • what version of Plex Media Server do you have installed on your MyCloud?
  • have you tried connecting through the hosted Plex Web (http://app.plex.tv/desktop) or the URL for the locally installed version of Plex Web (http://[IP address of the WD MyCloud]:32400/web)?
  • What browser are you using? Have you tried to use a different one to the same result?
  • Any content / ad blockers installed in your browser that might interfere with Plex?

http://app.plex.tv/desktop and IP address links both workfine,
I’m running firefox but it’s the same through the Windows app, LG TV app and Android App.
I’ve got a PiHole running but it’s the same when I disable it. I’m just trying the PiHole off for longer in case it’s a DNS issue but there doesn’t seem to be any problem connecting.

so you basically just get a wrong URL when clicking the configure button for Plex in the QNAP package center?

I’m assuming I need that link to work before Plex will connect to my My Cloud Home. This has all worked fine previous but just seems to have stopped

just bookmark http://app.plex.tv/desktop – there’s no need to open the Plex web app from within your WD MyCloud.

I can log onto Plex fine, there’s just no evidence of my My Cloud or anything in the Plex folder there. I’d followed the instructions and realised for some reason it was no longer enabled, I’ve enabled it and it’s made no difference.

Apologies… I was confused when you wrote that you can access Plex Web and assumed this included you being able to see the server running on your WD MyCloud.
Do you get a different result when opening Plex through the MyCloud’s IP address (http://[mycloud ip address]:32400/web)? If the server is running this should provide you with the locally installed version of Plex Web. If it’s there and you still cannot manage the server from there… something’s fishy.

Thanks just tried that unfortunately that doesn’t work, i can log onto Plex through apps etc but the IP:32400/web doesn’t seem to work.

I can open the Plex app on my phone and there’s content there from Plex but I can’t access any of the content from My Cloud Plex folder. So I have access to Plex but it looks like Plex isn’t talking to my My Cloud Home.

Got it. Do you get any error message when you try to open Plex through your browser using the WD MyCloud IP address?
