( Full disclosure - Totally a newbie to NAS and Plex )
I just bought WD My Cloud Home and I have enabled the plex services on the NAS. I had also installed the PMS for mac os catalina. I don’t understand why i should download a PMS for mac since I run the plex server through my NAS anyway. The problem I have been facing is that whenever the PMS for mac is offlline ( like when i shutdown my laptop ), even though the PMS for My Cloud Home is enabled, I can’t stream videos on my mobile and TV as it says " My Macbook Pro" is offline. I have connected my NAS to the same network as well. Even on Plex server setup page, i couldnt locate my NAS but only my macbook. Any help, greatly appreciated.
Have you configured Plex Media Server on your NAS. Just enabling it is not enough. Plex Media Server needs to be running and configured. Running in different devices (Mac and NAS) will be 2 different servers. If you’ve enabled it to run on your NAS, you need to configure it by accessing the local Plex web running on that server.
If you’ve already done this on your Mac, you’ll need to redo it on the NAS. Once setup properly, you can turn off your Mac and let the one on the NAS be your server.
Thank you for ur response. I vaguely remember doing it earlier after reading some other responses from the forums but it said SECURE CONNECTION FAILED and even now I am facing the same issue. But after changing it to HTTP protocol, it directs me to Plex web page wherein it asks me to download PMS. i attached relevant screenshots as well.
Problem : Cannot access My Cloud Home server in Plex.
After enabling PMS for WD My cloud home, I couldn’t locate the My cloud home server in Plex web but just showed me to download a PMS. I downloaded a PMS for mac and set it up as a server unintentionally. Now I had 2 PMS servers running. But whenever my Mac was switched off I couldn’t access the media from other devices. MovieFan.Plex, a team member of Plex patiently guided me in solving it.
Solution : I had my router set on IP address set on 192.162 series. But Plex doesn’t work in this range and needs private range of 192.168 series. My WD My cloud home was on 192.162 and that’s why i couldn’t locate it on Plex.
