I’ve used Plex a few months ago before there was a Plex app on the ps4. And I’d just use it as a dlna player for the media player on my ps4 and it would work. But only play a few movies but not all. Especially if it was an avi file, which I’m still having that issue. But now I downloaded the ps4 app and the Android app. I use only the hotspot on my phone, it worked in the past with no issues. So I go to pair my two devices. I enter the pairing pin and it says everything was successful. Then I try to use the apps on both devices. And it says on my ps4 that I need to download a Plex Media Server. Only issue is I don’t have a clue where to find this media server to download? Also do I download it onto my phone or open the browser on my ps4 and download it onto the ps4. Or can I download it onto my phone and then transfer it onto a flash drive then proceed to transfer it into the ps4? I’m lost here, I do not know why I’m having such an issue here? It’s frustrating me, I bought a POS Google Chromecast and I needed someone else’s wifi in order to set everything up and pair it. Then I would be able to use my own hotspot. Which is stupid if you ask me. I’m hoping that this isn’t a similar issue. If anyone can help me out here, ID greatly appreciate it! Again I have both Plex apps on my Android and Ps4 and I’m using only my phone’s hotspot. It keeps asking to download a media server even after it says the pairing was successful. What am I doing wrong? Thank you
it’s available on our website, click downloads at the top of the screen. to be clear the plex media server runs on a computer, not a phone or game console. it is for streaming your files from your computer to your phone, PS4 or any of our other player apps. The phone app has limited capabilities as a server for items in your phone’s camera roll ( not random files you have saved on it ) but the Playstation app cannot see it directly and needs a full server on the local network to act as a go between ( even if that server has no media on it itself )
So you’re basically saying that without a laptop or a PC to download the server I’m basically screwed right? All I have is a top of the line android using 5.1.1. And my ps4, so a tablet wouldn’t work either I’m assuming. Just great, I have google Chromecast but its giving me issues as well. I’m needing to use someone else’s hotspot or WiFi in order to set that up so o can then set it up to work on my hotspot. Go figure. I guess for now I’m stuck streaming stuff off HBO Go, YouTube, etc… And just transfer my movie downloads from my flash drives to watch off my ps4. What a bummer, guess I need to finally join the rest of society and get an actual ISP?
Oh and I could of swore I used Plex a few months ago before ps4 had the Plex app. And it somehow worked. I was able to watch all the media I had on my phone thru my ps4. Maybe I just got lucky? Who knows, guess I need to invest in a laptop and an isp provider asap?
