I don't understand why the Plex Xbox player is so bad, respectfully

This issue is mainly due to the playing of anime on my Xbox Series X, other media without stylistic and nice looking subtitles work fine. I love Plex as a product and while researching my Issue I came across an article from Plex itself from 2015 describing its “New” at the time media player. The whole article screamed “this is what I was looking for” It said that it was based on MPV, which is the GOAT as far as players are concerned; it bragged about subtitle and audio support; and claimed to be able to play any file type under the sun, which seems to be true. I think to myself Oh I’ve just been using the wrong application! I start up microsoft store and search Plex Media Player…no results. A couple of google searches later and I see that 1-It seems to be a windows only type thing 2-Plex seems to use a lot of different players depending on the client, My IPhone will play anything I throw at it, it seems that android has a wonderful player that can handle almost everything. Why not Xbox Series X and Gaming consoles as a whole? It’s where a large portion of people and their families consume their media. If a household’s TV has 1 HDMI input whats plugged into it? The Cable Box, just kidding its their Xbox or Playstation with Netflix, Crunchyroll, Hulu, and HBO installed and ready to go.

If i can install VLC media player, which is open source if I remember correctly, and direct play all of my media without issue on my Series X why can’t the Plex application do the same?

I absolutely love Plex as a product, which is why I pay. The UI: A+ The music before I start watching a show: Awesome The automatic metadata for all of my things: S-tier thinking. The ability to watch all of these things when I’m not home: absolutely amazing. The fact that my device which already has an open-source media player that works well, has to transcode because of subtitles? I just don’t get it. Any reply is welcome and I hope to see a good player for Plex on gaming consoles, since I know Plex is focused on being the best

I hope Plex focuses more on the Console side, no reason in my head series X shouldn’t have a player especially with VLC available. I believe a Plex competitor has a implemented subtitle support already

I’ve also come across a bug where if I have ethernet connected to my XB1S it takes the original file and renders it down to 720x404 no matter what quality I have chosen, Direct Play On/Off. It’s fixed when I switch to Wireless it then goes to original quality, but my wifi is not very good so it stutters.

I’ve tried many different Movie files, TV Shows, BluRays, DVDs, MP4s, MKVs, and they all have the 720x404 issue, only on the 1S, only when ethernet.

Kinda sucks as I bought the 1S specifically as a cheap 4k player for the parents, and then installed Plex so they could watch without having to get the disc, but now they have to lest it be choppy or blurry.

just a guess, but sounds like your plex server thinks your xbox is remote, check your plex web dashboard, make sure your xbox is on the same local subnet.

It all is.

The Xbox is connected to the same Network Switch as my PC which is acting as the server when connected with Ethernet, and is connected to the same Router as my PC when on wireless.

Even then I have my Remote Quality set to Original so it should not be transcoding a 1080p Blu-Ray to 404p.
