I currently have 2 movie libraries (DVD and Bluray). I would like to create a third library that points to both folders so I can get a consolidated listing of all my movies. My Plex server seems to slow down (hours) dramatically as it tries to build the library. I finally quite because it was also affecting the response time on my original libraries.
So my question is can this be done or is it not recommended to have multiple libraries pointing to the same movie folders?

If you’re on Windows, look at Task Manager to see what’s using all your resources. If it’s PlexNewTranscoder.exe, then it’s probably building the thumbnails. If it is thumbnails, then you probably have it set to generate thumbnails when media is added. You can try setting it to generate thumbnails during scheduled tasks so it only generates them during a certain time of the day.
