I have 2 seasons of dark angel, it's see's 1 season, 1 show only

Ok, it says I have ONLY 1 season, and it says it’s season 4, and a SINGLE show, it’s the 411 episode. I tried renaming it, the whole thing went away
I have tried everything, re-match, analyze refresh metadata… I am really lost, there’s a season 2 it doesn’t see at all!

And the filename for the primary directory -

S01EP01 <–Unsupported naming format

Must be S01E01

That cannot be it, all I did was move it from one server to another, the original server saw it just find, the new one is having all kinds of issues.

For TV shows, Plex uses the TMDB or TVDB ID. IMDB is not supported.

Also, the season folder should be named “Season 01.”

If you follow the documentation it works.

Rename per the documentation and, if necessary, Plex Dance the show.

EDIT: One more thing to check.
Plex can read embedded metadata from MP4 files. If the metadata is incorrect, Plex will not display the show correctly.

To tell Plex to ignore embedded metadata:

  • Edit the TV show library
  • Advanced
  • Deselect Prefer Local Metadata.
  • Save changes & refresh metadata if Plex does not do so automatically.

There shouldn’t be a “(2000)” in the file name, the series is simply named “Dark Angel”…

If you follow the naming convention and rename the files as follows it should work.

For season one:

Dark Angel - S01E01 - Pilot.mkv
Dark Angel - S01E02 - Heat.mkv
Dark Angel - S01E03 - Flushed.mkv
etc.

And then for season two:

Dark Angel - S02E01 - Designate This.mkv
Dark Angel - S02E02 - Bag 'Em.mkv
Dark Angel - S02E02 - Proof of Purchase.mkv
etc.

It may also help to name your top level folder “Dark Angel {tvdb-76148}”

It’s not required.
As you pointed out it’s not part of the official show name.
That being said, there’s nothing wrong with including the year the show first aired. Same as with movie naming the release year can help Plex matching the right show… especially if there are same-named shows.

If you want to save yourself a lot of time I would recommend using Download - tinyMediaManager and use:

Episode format:
${showTitle} - S${seasonNr2}E${episodeNr2} - ${title}

Folder format:
${showTitle} (${showYear}) {tvdb-${tvShow.ids.tvdb}}/Season ${seasonNr2}

as the new name format.

Naming and Organizing Your TV Show Files

For the “Plex TV Series” agent, it is recommended to always include the year alongside the series title in folder and file names, e.g. /Band of Brothers (2001)/Season 01/Band of Brothers (2001) - s01e01 - Currahee.mkv

Actually, I ended up simply re-installing plex, and it fixed everything. I guess something happened when I installed it, and re-installing, allowed it to read everything perfect the way it was.
