Before I go any further, this is a paid opportunity. I am an IT Consultant in Houston Tx. I have been doing this for over 23 years. I am NOT a programmer or webdeveloper, but I do respect them and use their products every day. I got turned on to Plex 2 weeks ago. i decided to get off of satellite and go to the net. I bought a new tv a roku and new surround sound, counting on the substantial savings from ditching directv to pay for my toys... Anyway I had an emergency surgery that made me homebound for a week and a half, timing was perfect. I researched I tested and ran across Plex.. WOW! So this is my new hobby, Lets get to the reason for this post.
Ok, I have a client that wants to take jpg's (camera and computer hardware already in place) and then dump them into a database. He heard of metadata. I knew of it but wasn't really up to speed to I did my homework. We contracted with a local developer who after having the project for 2 months bailed. Here is what the client wants:
He has about 10 custom data fields that need to be added to the jpg database. We have a moonlighing developer that was supposed to do this, he has had the project for 2 months and has done nothing. Due to the personnel manipulating this, we put in place a 23" touchscreen or the operators to use to take the pics and edit the data. i know that there are some editable meta fields. This really isn't a solution I want to present, it isn't elegant, simple and easy to use.
Enter Plex, anyone see where I am going with this? An awesome interface, a great search engine, designed for multimedia all I need is a few fields added, Search capability enhanced to encompass the new data fields. As I said i am not a developer. I know that my knowledge is limited. So here is what I am asking:
Can it be done with Plex
Has it been done with Plex
Have you done something similar and have some kind of example we can see.
How much to implement? I will provide the data fields that need to be added after we agree on a price.
I need this Yesterday! Seriously, the client is at a trade show in New Orleans. Like I said our developer flaked on us this morning. I am up against the wall looking for a solution. I personally thing the timing was good and am happy he quit because I think Plex is a more elegant solution.
To show that this is not BS, my name is Garry Pratt. Please be aware that I am in Texas CST, be kind and do not call after 9:00 PM. Doh forgot my phone number edited post 832-421-3958 I am serious, if you can make this work and I can present to client working application. You can pretty much set your price. (be reasonable everyone I have been doing this for 23 years) You are free to brand and take credit for the application, but all usage rights will beling to us. You will proved a perpetual license, but you may do with the IP whatever you desire.
Time is of the essance. If it can't be done, I would appreciate knowing that as well.
Thanks for your time.
Garry

One more thing. I have worked with this client for a long time. This is just the start. There will be more work, more fine tuning, and more money to be made. I work for a consulting company and have been contracted on-site for over 3 months. Working on projects and cleaning up previous consultants mess (unfortunately one of ours) Lots of stuff to play with. The client is a contract CNC shop and their business is booming, And no, you don't get the clients name until we contract ;-) Gotta love Houston and oil industry!
