So I have my media server mirrored via syncing software to my brother’s house so that he can stream locally without buffering issues. However, even though his account is a sub-account of mine, and even though I have plex pass, he cannot enable hardware encoding.
What the heck was the point of tying his account to mine if he can’t use the pass I purchased?
@benjorman A plex pass is linked to your email address (which I assume you have signed your server in with giving you access to the PlexPass features). If there is a second server you want to use those features on the second server will also need to be signed in with the same account to get the plex pass.
Sharing your server with another user does not give them the ability to use PlexPass on their server.

But I’m not just talking about some random user; they’re part of my “Plex Home”, and they get certain plex pass benefits (IE: Syncing) but for whatever reason, not Hardware encoding.
Even though his account is associated with a separate email address, I can log in as him as long as he doesn’t have a PIN set up (because he’s part of my home), even when he has his own server. So again, I don’t understand why this particular feature has been selectively omitted from Plex Home users.
Hardware acceleration is not available to Plex Home members of an account with Plex Pass. I’ve tested this. With a remote server claimed by someone in my plex home, the feature is unavailable. When they unclaim the server and then claim it via my login (on the same computer as they were before, mind you), the option is suddenly available.
You cannot pass on your Plex Pass to users who have own servers.
When the server is signed into your plex account (which has a Plex Pass), then the Plex Pass features are available on the server.
If the server is signed into a plex account which hasn’t Plex Pass, they are not available for that server.
The Plex Pass inheritance only covers free access to the paid ‘mobile’ apps for all users who are in your Plex Home. It does not cover their own servers.
