I just installed the update to my fire tv and now I can't stream?

HI! I just installed the update and now I cant stream from any servers. The image is basically frozen, playing extremely slowly. It loops on the other end, apparently.

  • I tried watch parties and playing directly.
  • The only thing I changed was my friendly username when I was trying to fix this issue.
  • I can stream fine from my laptop, but obviously I want to use the big tv
  • I restarted FIre and it will kind of play - very fast for a few seconds then buffer.
  • its the same with or without the VPN

I have gig speed internet that is working fine, in the same room about 12 feet away from the firestick.

Plex is always fussy but I could stream and watch party just fine. What is going on???

This after I just bought a lifetime membership, too?!?!?!?

I’m a Plex Pass holder as well, but have learned the hard way not to update Plex unless I really need something in that update. (And then to be prepared to deal with the aftermath.) I’ve rebuilt my libraries once, settings and streaming issues, etc. And this on a directly connected dedicated HTPC.

NOTE that previous version are located here in your AppData folder, so you can easily roll back to a previous, working version:

C:\Users\YOUR-PROFILE-NAME\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Updates

THANK YOU! I a using the FIre stick not my laptop - where is app data and are there clear instructions on how to revert?

Last things first: I’ve had to roll back a couple times. All I did was STOP/EXIT the Plex Server (that’s important) and then just run the version installer that I wanted to roll back to. EDIT to add that after the installation completes, RESTART the computer and you should be all set.

The AppData folder is hidden by default in Windows. I have never seen the reason for that, it’s not system files which have their own Hide-Unhide option.

To Unhide the AppData folder:

  • Search for File Explorer Options (or) go into File Explorer

  • Go to Options

  • Go to View

  • CHECK “Show hidden files, folders and Drives”

  • You might also want to UNCHECK “Hide Extensions for known file types”

  • Click APPLY and now you should see the AppData folder in C:\Users\Your-User-Profile-Name

I managed to miss the part about you using a Firestick. Did you figure this out, do you have previous versions on it, etc?

thank you! It just resolved itself. I would like to know how to install previous versions in FIRE STICK, though.
