I have been running the Plex server on a win 11 desktop. That PC failed and needed to go for repairs. I also have a Laptop and my media files are on an external drive, so I decided to install the server on the laptop. History: I got a lifetime Plex Pass in 2017. I usually watch my media on a smart TV using the Fire TV Plex app.
Since installing the server on the laptop I have been unable to log in, but I have discovered that I have another account created in 2022. This is not tied to my Plex Pass. In my efforts to log in I have seen a link to delete this account, but haven’t used it because I don’t want to accidentaly delete my Plex Pass. To further complicale matters I have two email addresses as well as a username.
When I open the Fire TV Plex app it shows (in View My Profile) my username, that I have a Plex Pass, I joined in 2017 and also lists the totals of movies, Shows and Episodes I have viewed.
I would like to delete the second account and get the server working on my laptop, but don’t want to keep blindly trying to get it to work.
I have read applicaple support documents and forum posts by users who have had similar problems, but haven’t found a solution. I need help.
The user account that you are using to post in this here forum doesn’t have a Plex Pass attached to it.
So if you posted from this laptop, it is a hint that this laptop is currently using the wrong user account.
You can find out which email address it is currently using by going to https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/account
Do NOT try to change anything on this page, for now.
Instead, look into your email archive and any other notes, what the email address of the other account (the one with the Plex Pass) could be (and its accompanying password, of course.)
Look at the left side bar. Can you see the name of the Plex server that is now running on the Laptop?
It should be looking similar to this:
With the grey “Remove” button you can remove the association of this server with the currently used plex account.
Then you also need to log out the Plex web app from this account.
You do that by clicking on your user avatar in the upper, right corner and “Sign Out”.
Now you can log in in the same menu, using the correct login credentials of the account with Plex Pass.
Once that is done, you can proceed to “claim” the server into this user account:
I can’t find an email archive. A note says it’s unable to connect to “MSI Laptop” securely. The only “Remove” link I can find is “X Remove server” on the bottom left.
I looked at the profile and found a username and an email. It’s the one I don’t often use. Under Security it says a password is “not set”. Under Linked Accounts it says Google. At the very bottom it says “Delete your account”.
