I need some help!!

Hi I’m new to Plex and I have to say, it works amazingly well, no lag or any streaming problems what so ever. I’m using it now for 2 months. And really, it’s nice!!

But, I wanted to try to make my experience even better and I need your help to make it all happen. I’ve been trying to use the remote access setting to have access to my media even when I’m not home, but I never really made it work. And that is just part of what I trying to realize.

The idea is this:
I want to connect my spare laptop with my plex media on it directly to the router AND have access to it when I’m not at home.

I don’t know where to start. Since the remote access option didn’t work, Im also confused with the way to realize the direct-connect-to-router-and-outofhome-accessability option. Can anyone point me in the right direction, that would be really helpful. Or maybe explain to me the exact steps to execute, since I’m not really good with the port forwarding and NAT or Upnp stuff.

Thanks a tons!!

You need to read the documentation thorughouly first of all. You need to forward a external port (somewhere in the 50000 - 70000 range for example 69012) and map it to the internal local port 32400. This part is all done in your routers settings. You’d then tell Plex in Plex’s settings to use this manual port that you defined earlier i.e. 69012 and set it to only use that port. See the link below.
