I want to see credits like I used to

While I appreciate Plex adding new features, I really hate the new behaviour with regards to credits. I just want my movies to play out normally, full screen, all the way to the end.

There doesn’t seem to be any way to go back to this previous behaviour, at least not that I can find. Sure, I can turn off credit video markers generation on my server, but for all I know Plex has already scanned my entire library, so that won’t help with my existing media.

Am I missing something?
Is there a hidden option somewhere to change Plex’s behaviour wrt credits?
Am I the only one not liking this?

BTW, I’m running Plex on Android on a Shield Pro.

On your Server/In side menu/ Movies/ Manage Library/ Edit/ Advanced settings. Can be found in the Vertical Ellipsis/ Kebab Menu

Thank you! I like the Credit Detection for TV Shows but not for movies.

Thank you SE56.
I’m still curious if this will change the behaviour for all the movies in my library which have already been analyzed…

Wouldn’t it make more sense to let this functionality be controlled on the client side?
So, detection on/off on the server, behaviour control on the client. This way, every user would be able to determine whether or not to make use of it.

Regards,
Danny

I believe you will find it does stop Skip credits markers

I will check, thanks SE56.

Disabling credit detection is solving the problem with a sledge hammer. I WANT credits detection done for all movies and TV shows (of course, fixing the premature start of credits!), BUT I want to disable the AUTOMATIC playback changing to having an episode of a TV show in the small window showing the next episode…

Sure, I can manually click every time, but I NEED that feature to be enabled/disabled as a user setting. I can click “skip credits” if I want to, but this automatic change in how the end of an episode is played is a big mistake in UX design.

Ok then…

Same, I just disabled credit detection for everything, can’t even go full screen at the end of shows when I had credit detection enabled, so annoying

Um, er… what do you mean by that, please?

Hilariously, I just encountered an issue with credit detection today. Watched a TV Show on my Nvidia Shield, and saw a credit for someone I wasn’t expecting. Right when I wanted to go back to look at it, Plex went into the “credits” mode, where it shrunk the video and showed the “up next” window. (Annoyingly, it doesn’t even start the countdown to the next episode at this point)

Anyway, I selected the mini window in order to maximize it to see the credits fully and… Plex immediately shrank the window. I kept pressing left to select the video, it would maximize, then immediately shrink. Over and over. I laughed it off as yet another bug in the Shield app, but this wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t used the end credit skip feature.

In case you are curious, the credit I saw was a producer credit on the Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, for Laurence Fishburne. I was surprised to see him involved in this cartoon.

According to the official how to use the credits detection (link at the very top of this topic):

When watching a TV show episode or a Movie, and when the ending credits starts to show, you can press the “Skip Credits” button, and the player will jump to the end of the credits, or the post play screen, if credits are at the end of the movie or episode.

Unfortunately that’s NOT how it works!
We users don’t do anything and the media we’re watching goes to that small unreadable window. If we had to either (a) ckick to skip credits (as described), or (b) this action was a user-settable action, then fine.

But the way it’s working is NOT per “spec” and is a bad user experience!

Hello Plex… anyone from Plex seeing this?

Works for me on a LG TV with a MacOS Server

I’m running a macos server and viewing on an AppleTV. When this credit thing first came up it did ask me to click to skip. Then, it stopped asking me and just popped open that small window thing.

It depends on if the client player supports the “post-play” screen. Android OS does it (my anecdote up above shows it), and apparently at least the AppleTV player does as well.

It also depends on how many of these end credit markers there are. If it determines there is a mid-credit scene, Plex will NOT shrink the video, and will only show a tiny Skip Credits button in the corner. Click that and it skips forward. If there are no more mid-credit scenes, then it will instead go to the “post-play” screen, which shrinks the video, offering a preview of the next episode for TV Shows (or just a list of “similar movies” for movies).

As I encounter this “shrink the movie” feature on Android/Shield, I hate it more and more. I already disliked it for movies, as it caused an inconsistent behavior that seemed counter-intuitive to me. To have it happen automatically and constantly for TV Shows now too really bug me.

This is my experience with credits detection using an Apple TV too.

To me, to have the credits automatically shrink into a small window is very distracting and always gets me out of the experience when I watch movies. I very often like to keep the credits rolling for movies and I would rather have a “Skip Credits” button appear in all circumstances instead of the current behavior.

That’s why after some testing I enabled credits detection for my TV Show library (where the “shrinking into a small box” behavior makes more sense) but NOT for my Movie library. If there was an option to stop the automatic shrinking of the video I would also enable credits detection for my movies immediately.

I still don’t understand why someone would want to skip the movie credits with a “Skip Credits” button. Why not just use the Stop button or Fast Forward or the Back button on Roku? Are people really queueing up movies to bing watch and wish to jump the next movie?

I do understand for TV Shows; especially the 30-minute variety.

One good use case is when there are mid-credits scenes in the movie, as there are in most (if not all) of the MCU movies. If you don’t know they are there and you just end the movie, you miss them. If you instead press the skip credits button it takes you right to that scene, after which you can end the movie, or skip credits again to end (or potentially go to another mid-credit scene, as in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2).

When my shows have the 5 minutes of silent dubbing credits at the end of every episode, I often need to hold down the skip forward button to fast forward through it all. The android Shield player is pretty unstable though, and doing so can cause all kinds of crashes or freezes. If I just skip to next file immediately, that 20% of the file remaining will often not get marked as played (half because it’s so much of the file, and half because the android player has a bug not recognizing a played video as played).

I’d like a working skip credits button that avoided all these issues, but shrinking the video instead of a button is way more annoying.

I have the same problem scrubbing through videos on the Android client. Thought it was only on the Shield, but just crashed a Fire Stick client doing the same thing. Very annoying. I’ve reported it several times.

I concur about having a proper skip credits button for TV episodes.
