Server Version#: 1.25.0.5282
Player Version#: 4.66.1
Recently updated to 1.25.0.5282, ever since Plex has now instituted a permanent prompt to use their new library agents. I’ve put a lot hours into customizing my library, I’ve seen a bunch of stuff about users in the past losing their posters, etc when upgrading libraries to the new agents. I don’t want to upgrade my libraries just to find out I might have go and fix a bunch of stuff after upgrading.
Can you please this remove or disable the stupid prompt? I’m sick of seeing it. Unless Plex Legacy is being killed off, I’m not interested in changing anything with my current setup
I can’t 100% say this is why the prompt is there, but it is my belief that the logic is, eventually the old agent will be totally killed off and a whole bunch of people will be left angry about why they weren’t warned to upgrade. If they just keep prompting users to upgrade then when they do flip the switch those users will have no where to look but themselves.
Edit: I 100% CAN say why the prompt is there. The old agent will be killed off.
Have you tried creating a new library using the new agent, without altering your existing library? You will be able to see what problems may occur, if any, and possibly figure out how to avoid or fix them while still having access to your existing library.
As @Blkbyrd said, you will likely have to make the change eventually.
I have no interest in switching over to the new agents. So I don’t want to be prompted to switch over. Unless Plex Legacy is being retired, which has not been announced, I’m not changing anything with my setup, especially based your speculation. It’s not broke, it doesn’t need fixed or tweaked
Well you are not the first, nor will be the last requesting that the prompt be removed which leads me to believe they have a reason for prompting people even if it annoys them. I̶ w̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ s̶p̶e̶c̶u̶l̶a̶t̶e̶ t̶h̶a̶t̶ r̶e̶a̶s̶o̶n̶ i̶s̶ t̶h̶e̶ e̶v̶e̶n̶t̶u̶a̶l̶ r̶e̶t̶i̶r̶e̶m̶e̶n̶t̶ o̶f̶ t̶h̶e̶ o̶l̶d̶ a̶g̶e̶n̶t̶. You can dig your heels in, but reality is that Plex has a new, shiny, and objectively superior agent, and its pretty unlikely they are going to keep the old agent up to date and working once the last few kinks are worked out of the new one.
Edit: I can now say with certainty that the old agent is absolutely going to be killed.
I upgraded my libraries, and it wiped out my watch history for all episodes no longer in the library. What this means is that new episodes of series I’ve already watched and deleted previous episodes of are no longer showing in Continue Watching, and won’t until I’ve watched the next episode. The only way around this seems to be to create a dummy file, name it as the previously watched episode (or retrieve that episode from the recycle bin if it’s still there), then mark that episode as watched and delete it. A massive pain, and I suppose it’s a done deal now and there’s no going back but I really wish there’d been some warning of previous watched episode data being deleted like this. Or preferably - just don’t do it! This is going to happen with every new episode for the next week, and after Christmas for things currently on hiatus, and every new series of things that aren’t on at the moment. Thanks for making Continue Watching useless.
Newest server update 1.25.1.5286 is still prompting for library upgrades…come on already let us hide this non removable prompt. Unless I’m absolutely forced to do it, I have no interest in “upgrading”
It is not going to be something that you will be able to hide because like I said in my earlier post the old agent is for sure being killed. You can continue to dig your heels in and holler about it but the fact is that there is 0 possibility the prompt will be hidden. The sooner you upgrade your libraries and get over it the better, because at some point in the near future the switch will be flipped and you will be forced onto the new agent kicking and screaming.
Incidentally I’ve already found a show that was matching correctly with the old agent, but incorrectly with the new one (“4400” is matching as “The 4400”).
I suggest switching to the new agent. It performs much faster in matching and metadata retrieval. Make sure to lock all custom changes before switching otherwise you’ll have some editing to do.
For anyone else complaining about matching not working perfect for every title… there has never been nor will there ever be an agent that works 100% of the time for every title as there are many with nearly identical names. Don’t like it? Oh well…
Couldn’t agree more. The new agents are far superior to the old legacy ones. They are lightening fast and overall give better metadata for those of us who care about such things.
Are they prefect, nope! They have some shortcomings (cast list for shows my major gripe) but are they an improvement over the legacy agents, most certainly.
Also… In my experience if folks follow the plex naming of media then 99% of the time they match correctly. Even better is the use of ids in the folder names for matching, like pointed out above for the 4400 show.
Turns out it also deleted all my “Delete episodes after a day” settings for shows that didn’t currently have an episode in the library. So I’ve got to remember to set all those again as and when new episodes come in.
I don’t doubt the new agent is better overall, but the switch over should have been handled without resetting a load of viewing history and settings that affect the operation of Plex. I presume that any customised settings or metadata for shows without episodes in the library at the time of the switch have been deleted outright.
