Lately I often have subtitles which render very tiny on my chromecast, even if the size is set to huge.
Thanks to this topic (Subtitles way too small) I’ve been able to trace it back to the fact that the .srt file contains font sizes like this:
I believe it would be much more logical if plex would ignore this and play always the same size of subtitles. At least there should be an option to do so. @OttoKerner mentioned there he would launch a feature request for this over a year ago, what happened there?
The point of the <font> tag is to override the font used. Ignoring it would defeat the point of supporting that tag. In this case, I think your file is wrong. AFAIK, the size should be a decimal number, not hexadecimal.
I think you can argue about that.
I see the point of the tag, and I fully agree my file is probably corrupted and plex is probably rendering it “correct”.
But remains the fact that I don’t like this experience and would much more like a consistent font rendering.
The .srt file is donwloaded by plex/subtitle plugin. There’s not much control about the quality.
Even if somebody likes to be smart and wants to put font sizes in the srt file, I’d like my fonts to look the same for every movie. No special fancy stuff.
So yes, maybe there’s value. But I also see value for being able to ignore this.
