Subtitle size setting has no effect on some SRT subtitles

Plex on Nvidia Shield. I like subtitles on everything but I don’t NEED them to understand most of the time so I want to set them very small. Unfortunately the Plex player cannot resize all subtitles to the ‘Small’ size.

99% of my subtitles are SRT which is just plain text, it should be no problem to resize this. For a small recent number of examples:

This Old House: srt that gets sized to small
Fringe: srt stuck at large
Terrace House: ass that gets converted to plain text, sized at small
Noah: srt stuck at large

Guess what the commonality is? All the ones that can’t be resized are subtitles from external srt files. This makes no sense.

I don’t know if this is yet another ExoPlayer issue but it’s very annoying.

Anyway, please tell me I’m missing something basic and that the solution is not manually merging subtitles into the mkv for every thing I watch.

Anyone have any ideas? Just experienced this again on a movie. It’s almost like it’s not actually using the srt file. I say this because it’s positioning the text under the speaker like PGS often does which is not a thing that srt supports.

The movie does have PGS subs also. So it makes me think it’s somehow ignoring my subtitle selection and using the default English PGS instead. Absolutely strange.
