I have SRTs embedded into all of my videos and they contain no information relating to size at all.
The option selected in the actual video playback is “tiny” and the server wide settings are also “tiny” so why are they so large?

Please tell the type of Plex client you are using
as well as the media info XML of the video

Lets see… Im using Plex web client along side Plex Cloud linked to my google account.
I convert all of my videos to mp4 or m4v for use in iTunes and the subtitles are in SRT format. Heres the XML printout
This doesn’t make sense.
A TV show in 4k and 60fps ?
I think your conversion parameters are over the top and produce unnecessarily big files which pose a massive problem for many clients.
Its 4K and 60FPS. Its a rip from UXN. Its South Korea’s premium 4K TV Network.
The TV show in question is called Goblin and had a massive budget. The 4K release on BD is coming out later next month
But the subtitle issue is the same no matter what I watch, wether it be 480p, 720p, 1080p or 4K. I thought the issue might be a scaling issue on a Retina display but it happens on my 1080p TV using Plex app on the Apple TV.
–Edit–
I just tried putting the .srt files in the folder directories and thats seemed to fix the issue. It might be related to the 4k video after all lol. Sorry
<Stream id="1344" streamType="3" selected="1" default="1" codec="mov_text" index="3" bitrate="0" language="English" languageCode="eng" streamIdentifier="3" />
That is not a srt file. Or did you actually force a SRT file into an MP4/M4V container? Having a srt file is against the specs.
I added it when converting with Handbrake.
That shows the subtitles as TX3G which is also called mov_text, which is not the same as srt. There may have been some formatting in the mov_text file affecting the size of the subtitle. There is a setting in most Plex clients to control subtitle. Set it to transcode only image formats. This should remove any formatting that may be in the file and give you the same result as using a plain srt file.

The files I import to the document are .srts. They must be getting converted. Do you know of a tool that injects srt files into an MP4?
