I'm Trying to set up Local Plex Server but Plex only gives me the choice of Plex cloud - How do I get it to recognise other Drives

Server Version#: 3.63.1
Player Version#: ?

Hi,

After today’s announcement about Plex Cloud I have decided to install PMS on my pc and start to set up Plex locally.

When I go into Account (within PMS) I am only given the option to connect to Plex Cloud. How do I get rid of Plex Cloud and get PMS to allow me to connect to one of my local drives.

I would like to get started asap because I have a lot of content to set up in PMS

Thanks

Mike

  1. don’t use Microsoft Edge. It won’t work with local Plex servers.

  2. if you had plex server previously installed on this machine, it could still be using an old plex.tv account, to which your current account has no access. Perform this procedure to solve: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/

Otto,

Thanks for coming back quickly, I use google Chrome.

Can I run my Plex Cloud and Local Drive on Plex at the same time, i would like to keep the Cloud until everything is fully set up.

I will go through the procedure you suggested when Iget home from work

Thanks

Mike

As long as you use the exact same plex.tv account for both servers, you can run as many servers concurrently as you want. And you can easily switch between them.

As long as you use the exact same plex.tv account for both servers - you mean the same log in details i.e. I only have one Plex Pass account

Precisely.

Thank you

Apologies for noob questions but I don’t want to waste your or my time

Hi Otto,

I followed your instructions but now my PMS will not load.

I have uninstalled & reinstalled PMS but it still not load

Any suggestions?

Mike

Go back into the Registry.

Is there a key named LocalAppDataPath?
If so, is the path referenced in there still existant and accessible? (it must not be on a network share)

Does it point to the root folder of a drive (i.e. a simple drive letter like d:)?
If it does, edit it and add a backslash after the colon, so it reads e.g. d:\

If the referenced path no longer exists, you may simply delete the key LocalAppDataPath

Hi,

I changed the “LocalAppDataPath” to D:\ and tried to launch Plex - it did not work

I then deleted “LocalAppDataPath” and it still did not launch

Should I delete the whole Plex Registry, uninstall PMS and start again.

I attach a screen shot of the registry (before deleting “LocalAppDataPath”) for you to see if you can anything wrong

Perform the full ‘thorough’ uninstallation procedure laid out here
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201941078-uninstall-plex-media-server/

Thanks,

I will do that tonight after work

Hi Otto,

That looks like it is working, it is currently updating with content.

How do I delete a server - it was a Cloud Server that died a few days ago. It says that it is unavailable but still shows up everywhere. I would like to delete fully.

Thanks for your help earlier

Mike

https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/devices/pms

Delete the Cloud server from there.
(Make sure to only delete the Cloud server and not your regular one)

Otto,

All done! Hopefully I will have a smooth ride with the non-cloud Plex - I will test it for the next few weeks.

Thanks for your help and patience

Mike

Really? That’s all I use and I’ve never had a problem.

Then you either have disabled secure connections or your server is not in your local network.

Secure Connections is set to Preferred, I have never touched that setting. The server is on same subnet in my home.
