hello, since the new update i could no longer stream to my apple tv from my ipad. The only change on the server and the ipad was the new software release. Since then i bought the watch pass to stream. i can stream but the image quality is so bad on the tv , i’d rather not watch it. Do i have to look for an alternative app?
Is there a reason you’re not using the Plex app directly on your AppleTV?
i did not know there was that application. do i need to keep it on my ipad ? do i need the watch pass?
On your AppleTV go to the App Store and search for "Plex "and download that app and use it on your AppleTV without needing your iPad or any other device.
thanks, got the app install on apple tv, but it cannot see my laptop( my server). it is listed but says it cannot connect to. you sure this is easier then ipad? It was very easy before the new update, touchscreen and all that. The remote on apple tv is not that great but will take it if we can make it work with my server

and be sure to include the server version and AppleTV model and tvOS version.
If you want to troubleshoot streaming from your iPad, are you doing screen mirroring? And are all your devices on the same network? Or are you streaming remotely from someone else’s server?
At this point I will leave the app on the tv alone. Strangely iPad is working find this lunchtime, image quality is there. I will watch it . If I decide go on the app, do I still need the watch pass?
Hello again, that was an illusion, image is not better, so still not working from iPad . All devices on same network, only one in the house. Will work later tomorrow and the days after on server to work on plex app on Apple TV that is not recognized / reachable but my goal is to have the iPad quality back like before the app upgrade.
You don’t need a Watch Pass for any streaming done in your own home. It’s only for remote access in situations where you or the server owner don’t have an active Plex Pass.
Regarding the low picture quality, is it possible that Plex is not seeing your iPad as a local device anymore, and then you’re being restricted by a Plex Relay connection for some reason? I was reminded of this post by ChuckPA where he mentions Apple attempting to anonymize network connections and that this might be making your server no longer see the iPad as in your own home. You might need to adjust a setting on the iPad so the Plex app is confirmed able to access things on your local network.
