On the Apple TV there is an option to turn off news feed on dashboard. I’m assum8ng it’s buried in the settings on other versions of the app
There is? I’ve scoured the app and I can’t find it. Can you let me
know where it is?
edit: nevermind I found it, but it doesn’t actually let you remove the “news” library.
Also, when I go to select a media library, there’s suddenly a new cloud library named “news”. Can we get an option to get rid of that too?
I have chatted with senior Engineering staff.
News should have been turned off for managed users two days ago (meaning September 27).
I ask for verification at this time.

Thanks again for taking ownership. It is much appreciated.
However, to confirm, it is ON for managed users (on my Home) and that is on Android 6.5.3.2115, Server (Mac) 1.9.3.4290 and I’m not sure about iOS.
Kyle,
I do ask you to confirm, (i’m about to get some people upset haha). You have managed users on your account and those managed accounts, not real plex.tv accounts, can see News?
Can you grab me some screenshots please ?

No problem, but what screenshots would you like?
There are both Managed Users (you are referring to My Home, right?) and real Plex.TV accounts. Meaning, both.
I guess does that help? What this is showing is the Users created under the “My Home” section and one of those users on Android with the “News” section showing.
At first, the News section did not show up, but after the app closed, and then re-opened, it was there. I am wondering, since I signed in on that phone, as the King or whatever the crown means (I like KING), and News appeared, does it then stay with all the users as I switch on the phone? Maybe that is why I see it and some other folks on the forum don’t? Or do we all have this problem?
Those are all real users who have Plex.tv accounts, not managed users local to your Plex Home. News for managed users is disabled at Plex.tv globally due to concerns for the typical managed user (children)
If they were managed users, you’d see the words Managed
I am really curious about the phone screenshot… What is that showing me? A managed user or a real user? It looks like you created a 'Friend" level share… and not a managed user in your Plex Home.

That’s precisely what I’m looking for… Thanks.

Well dang me twice Tuesday! I suppose I did that wrong (I did those right when Home was announced) and I obviously did it wrong. I suppose my thoughts (as per all my clarifications earlier) was Managed=Home and Unmanaged=Friends. Clearly that was wrong.
I will create Managed users.
My apologies to everyone who suggested Managed Users but I rebuttled against. Totally my bad.
Now, on to fixing the News as a toggle for everyone! While you’re at it, allow it to be customizable so at least the News Feed is relevant.

That was simply showing the correlation of what I believed was a “Managed” user and then on the Android app. Essentially just showing that the “News” was there. That was all.
When you have a managed user (one you created in your server) , which is commonly used for children, they won’t see News.
I rattled a few cages shaking this out. I just want to make sure children are protected and per parent’s wishes.
And that was the right thing to do. I believe what happened is I had all these accounts made for the kids before Home was released but I moved them to the Home instead of created them in the Home group. Not that it matters, but I think that was why I had them in my mind as “Managed” since I was controlling them under Home and restricting content.
Regardless, thank you for the correction.
Hopefully the “News” section gets a toggle or at least moved to the bottom out of the way.
Now, if only I had someone as rad as you looking at some other unresolved forum posts, the most pestering being;
I’ve submitted exactly that request. I’ve specifically asked for the same toggle (managed users) to be extended into the user account so it can be turned off at plex.tv in the same manner it is turned off for managed users at a global level.
Turned the AppleTV on for the first time in a couple of days, and only had that crap showing up. Add this as another vote to remove that fraudulent and abusive piece of crap completely. I don’t want to see it on the system, and I don’t want it showing up as a connected server on the AppleTV either.
Fix the bugs like a complete timeout because the server takes 15.3 seconds to respond rather than the 14 seconds that’s hardcoded in there. Don’t go adding unnecessary junk that seriously pisses off people that paid hundreds to NOT see that crap in the first place. That’s what the Channels feature is for, not abusing paying customers with whatever ■■■■ someone decides can earn advertising money from. That whole industry is based on fraud, and putting it into my living room is not something I want to see.
In the meantime, has anyone looked for any IP addresses to block at the firewall level? It might even be possible to add it to AdBlock, though that’s unlikely to stop the damn thing showing up in the first place.
Why can’t this be set like SYNC where it can be turned on or off on a per person basis? I have some accounts that I don’t want it on but others that might like it.

This is not a solution. You need to rattle a few more cages as you say and let us turn it off globally. Just like we can turn off movie previews.
I never post. Just find solutions myself. This “news” garbage" and data mining plex has started has me leaning towards EMBY. Get your ish together plex.
I didn’t say it was a solution. I jumped in to protect children. Most of us are very proactive in what our children see and I reacted as any parent would.
It was thought, due to how Plex Home groups users, that managed users, who are typically young children, had access to what most parents don’t want. That has been verified and clarified, managed users (those without a real plex account) do not see News. All others do.
I can’t speak to whatever Engineering is planning because I don’t know. Nothing has been shared with me. I’ve shared my thoughts on a control mechanism. My implementation would leverage that same control which turns News on/off for managed users but connect in a preference which is stored in your Plex.tv account settings and not at the device/local system level. This is more secure since they’d need to know your Plex.tv password to affect changes.
When I’m asked about this, I will advocate as I always do.
