I didn’t say it was a solution. I jumped in to protect children. Most of us are very proactive in what our children see and I reacted as any parent would.
It was thought, due to how Plex Home groups users, that managed users, who are typically young children, had access to what most parents don’t want. That has been verified and clarified, managed users (those without a real plex account) do not see News. All others do.
That’s great. How about the people they don’t run/host PMS. Seems like they are getting kicked in the face.
I bought a Plex Pass recently and have been considering whether or not to go lifetime. Plex News and the philosophy it represents suggests I should look elsewhere for a media solution. Plex was supposed to be about my media and what I want to see, not what partnerships you can build to monetize my eyeballs. I don’t want Plex News anywhere on my client screens. If Plex won’t accommodate that, I will look to Emby and other alternatives.
I also need the ability to disable news. I watch content on Plex to avoid news, not experience more of it. As a plexpass member, I should be able to disable whatever features I want. Additionally, since this feature launched, Plex on my Sony Bravia TV has been crashing every 15-20 minutes. C’mon guys.
Agreed…another UK user here and this News feature is completely pointless and stupid. Why the hell do I want a forced news section on an app I use for entertainment? If it stays, I will revert to using good old fashioned DLNA as I don’t need Plex trying to determine what I want or don’t want to see.
Please Please Please give us a way to disable Plex news from all devices. This is unwanted content and I completely agree with the original posters here - this is exactly what all of us are here to avoid. I can understand needing some sort of revenue generation for free users, but Plex-pass users should not be subject to this. I’m all for you adding new features, but there has to be a way to opt-out (and please make it a server/account-side setting instead of us having to do it on every device).

Well said.
Heck, plex if you made news only visible for free users, you would probably make more $ as those annoyed users would subscribe to plex pass to get rid of the garbage.

Don’t give 'em any ideas. They create enough havoc without any help
I came here looking for a way to remove the news “feature”. Am pretty shocked to find out I can’t. I don’t want news in plex. I kinda don’t want plex anymore.
I bought a lifetime Plex Pass recently (before the News roll-out) and felt good about supporting software that I’ve used for years, has had a responsive and healthy community during that time, etc.
After realizing I can’t disable it and now reading this thread, I’m afraid I have to agree: this has soured my opinion and outlook on Plex. Give us an option to disable News, at the very last to paid Plex Pass members. It’s clear that this has already damaged the community and will only damage it further if you don’t address their concerns.

Hey guys, the option to hide News is currently being worked on.

Speaking for myself, I’m incredibly thankful for the reply and update. I can promise you, constant communication with total nut jobs like us customers can go a LONG way to calming the fire.
Having worked in IT support I know the old tricks, “it’s being worked on” is good to hear but just to establish my position as a PITA is there any details, an ETA…
Anything to add that makes this statement at all reassuring as opposed to a vague placation?

Much appreciated.
I’m happy to help wherever i can. There have been a few more threads on this concern and we’ve made the product and dev teams aware of what users would like to see in terms of customizing and hiding it.

We generally do not disclose roadmaps or discuss unannounced features for various reasons. ETAs are a slippery slope as milestones can shift with changes to priorities or issue/feature complexity. Where possible I try to provide as much detail as I can, though specific timing is not usually something I can go into detail on. For this particular feature request, we should expect it soon, but I can’t be more specific than that.
