[Implemented] Disable "News" from the dashboard

Thanks for the update, I’m sure a lot of us are looking forward to hear more. It is appreciated that you have provided your input so sincere thanks.

Hey guys, the option to hide News is currently being worked on.

what does “hide” entail exactly? Will that be the same as turning it off entirely? I do not want any part of it in my network if I can prevent it? Is there a nuance here?

Happy to elaborate on the functionality. Since News is tied to a Plex account and not a server, users will be able to enable/disable it for their own accounts (Managed Users already have it disabled). Once disabled, the service will not interact with (or send data to) the client.

I ‘voted’ (liked) first post.

I’m sorry Plex employees, I believe one of the worst investments you’ve made as of late is purchasing the news feed company you currently force upon us.

I use Roku for streaming (guestimate) 95% of my video entertainment. (Though, debatable, some could consider ‘news’ entertaining depending on what’s being shown)

Even my Roku allows me to turn off it’s own news section from the home screen.
Video news clips, to me, are much like newspapers - archaic and usually already old by time it’s recorded.
When/if I need news, I find latest updates in text format on the internet using my mobile or PC.

The second to last thing I want is News on my PLEX dashboard.

The last thing I want is for that news to be sourced from the leading purveyors of FakeNews or a bunch of EU leaning leftists.

By way of example, If I want to find out about a hurricane in Louisiana, the last source I’ll turn to is someone in France or Germany who’s never been to and doesn’t know where Louisiana is.

I don’t want PLEX curating my news anymore than I want it to choose what movies I watch or music I listen to.

Remove the News section now. “Like” the first post in this thread if you agree.

~~Just a heads-up for everyone - go to your Account page (via the web app here, but should be similar elsewhere), and there’s now a “Plex News” section at the bottom that you can click on “edit” then turn off. ~~

It’s a really stupid place for it to be (as I don’t want it to appear to be anything to do with my shared library - that is still just as fraudulent as before) - but hopefully I’ll never see that stupid thing again and this will be the last complaint from me… Unless a friend or family member with access tries to ask me anything about it, in which case there’ll be yet more yelling…

Sad that my lifetime subscription payment has helped fund that piece of crap when there’s still so many bugs and unfinished features that actually need work (how about letting us add things to the Recommended section for one?)

Regardless, thank-you to the people who gave us the option turn this off (I don’t care if they added it in the first place, the whole decision came from someone above their pay grade…)

Screenshots? I can’t find anything anywhere.

Ugh - totally misread it - was the Newsletter option, forget I said anything (I edited rather than deleted so I can copy it when they do fix that thing eventually lol)

I want it gone not disable it but gone from my dashbaord

Once that gets into a release, disabling it will remove it from your dashboard.

So, more features no one wanted, that a majority now want off, that we wait on a future release to remove. Deja vu.

All, until Kino’s mention of “soon” becomes a reality, @aeroR1 's comments were very helpful to me for my dnsmasq config.

@aeror1 - Thank you for not making me scour logs to find the addresses. I’ve now added yet 2 more plex addresses to my list.

I am not allowed to elaborate, due to the Beta agreement, but I think I can confidently say the update will be welcome for everyone.

So disabled for managed users? what about us the primary user?
I still have it under my account (on an appletv 4).
My parents one that also on AppleTV4 they do not have it.

Is the update here yet? :persevere:

New update? does this get rid of news?

Update: 1.9.4 Does not remove the news tab

That’s probably because the news ‘feature’ isn’t pms related at all.

That is correct. Plex clients do not need to interact with PMS to access Plex News. This is direct to Plex News servers.

The beta usually turns to stable about a week to a week and half, but that’s not a guarantee. Sometimes it’s been two days and sometimes a month. Regardless, they’ve worked on it, and it’s a positive change.
