[Implemented] Disable "News" from the dashboard

Yes need an option. to disable news. Plex you are not replacable

@“maxime.wantiez”, unfortunately the post type options (New Discussion / Ask a Question / New Poll) are hard-coded featured of Vanilla Forums, the platform we use for this forum. We have the option of enabling/disabling either of those, but not creating a new one. I’m a key person in our vendor relationship with Vanilla (interact with them weekly on service issues, have monthly meetings with them, work through the contract, etc) and I can say that they pretty much don’t offer us any ability to customize that (and other things). Part of it I understand, since the way they have built their cloud platform would require customizations to roll out to all clients on at least the same cluster. They seem to be keen on keeping everything standardized and the same for all clients.

I agree that the forum, in it’s current state, is not the ideal format for posting issues, publicly tracking issues, or enabling engineering to efficiently dive into this and grab what they need to. There’s a lot of chit chat and noise that has to be sifted through be users, support, qa, and engineering. The traditional forums platforms are ideal for chit-chat, casual discussion among community members, sharing ideas, product exploration, and experimentation. That’s it’s strong suit. Support has been working on something new here, that would make for a better place to get help, report issues, track them, and provide something more efficient for engineering to be able to maintain a presence in, and improve issue report gathering. There’s a lot to consider and evaluate, and we’ve been extensively researching this. It’s still in the works, so I can’t get into more detail just yet (though I will say your bullet list looks mighty interesting).

Looks like they made a small change to the Plex app (Android) - News is still in the side Navbar, but it’s now at the bottom instead of being at the top and pushing all your stuff down. A good improvement, but I still want to be able to disable it entirely.

It’s alot worse on the TV layout. It’s always there and visible. No way to hide it or remove it. It has been weeks why can’t we disable this yet :frowning:

I really love managed accounts.

Just let us get rid of it completely. It can’t be that hard. Starting to feel like they are hoping the fuss dies down and everyone ‘gets used to it’.

Curious, is anyone actually using it and finding it worthwhile?

Agreed, after a lot of empty promises and hot air to earlier posts; nothing has emerged. No update, no apology, nada
Not that I had high hopes but it is just disappointing to be right sometimes.

Well
that’s what Plex has turned into: a bunch of dodgy salesmen.

“This personalization technology, now owned by Plex, will be used for other content in the future, says Keith Valory, Plex CEO.”

I DO NOT WANT THIS NEWS CRAP. I DO NOT WANT EXTERNAL CONTENT. Only thing I ever wanted and paid for was a media server.

Why was it not possible for PLEX to build the best Mediaserver ever? Why not stick with it? Now privacy is gone, and we get all these features nobody asked for. Picture Analyses, Behaviour analyses. Profiles being built.
But the features we asked for are not implemented.

I know this is a useless debate. I know this is a fight against windmills.

Trust me, in a few years PLEX will be either bankrupt or bought.
Thinking of it, maybe that’s what management wants, being bought.

Pity,

If you mean the Android TV layout, you can remove it from the main home page. Unfortunately, you will have to go into the news section first to turn it off. While viewing news, go to the very far right of the categories, there is a settings option. Then go to experience, then personalize. Turn off the option to display on the dashboard. Exit back to the home page and it’s gone. You can get to news if you want in the future by fining it at the far right end of your libraries list.

I have that off
That’s the hub. It still shows as a Library cause there is no settings in the settings to remove that.

Ok, my comment was in reference to your comment that it’s worse on Android TV. I thought you were referring to seeing the hub.

We are still working on adding the ability to totally turn it off so it won’t show in the library list either. Just not ready yet.

Paying long time plexpass user. Understand there needs to be revenue but not at the cost of my own content (which is the primary reason to buy plex) being deprioritized

NEED . A . WAY . TO DISABLE NOW!!

Well I must be the only person on this forum that doesn’t get this. I don’t have any news feed on any client or my server. Nothing. Is this a plexpass only thing?

I guess with all the negative comments on the issue I guess it’s a good thing. :*

No, not a PlexPass thing. I think it depends on the version of the server and client.
I use PMS v1.9.2 and don’t have it on my admin account. But it wouldn’t matter anyway as I ONLY use the admin account to manage my content, not to watch it so I won’t have that problem.

I have it neither
I stopped upgrading in Summer when they forced the Privacy Policy change on us. Since then my Plex ecosystem is frozen and I’m using Emby more and more. Looking back it was the right choice

Marcelhehle; which version number did you freeze at ?

I froze at 1.9.0, the last version with the opt out setting, but I fear it doesn’t matter at all. All clients use the new privacy policy anyway so they get their data through those.

The PlayStation, web, smart TV clients just open a web view that aren’t even updated locally so I’m probably screwed anyway.

The turn off news option is probably waiting on the same pile where the promised privacy policy improvements are currently queued
until we’ve become complacent and have forgotten.

I have a post from November 24th asking for anyone actively using the News service for any advice on how they’ve made use of it. So far, the post is a ghost town.

If it worked like Haystack, I might tinker with it. As of yet, I haven’t been able to fine tune it to start kicking me anything I’d find interesting.

Current version of Emby!

Plex can go f*** themselfes. I’m done with all those bugs and ignorant behavior.
