[Implemented] Fully Disable Discover & search results from Streaming Services (More Ways To Watch)

@Tangs

This is the biggest clash? LOL Guess you weren’t here for “Type First” UI layout?
LOL

ALL:

When I say “Legal”, it might be better said “Business Development”. My apologies if I stated incorrectly. I’m the “tech” side of the house. I wear blue jeans, they wear suits. “So whatever the ‘suits’ say…”

I’m not entirely sure about who, with the product team, makes the actual confirmation of compliance with contractual obligations.

Depressed and saddened would be more accurate. I’ve loved plex! Folks like chuck and the other plex employers on the front line in this forum are not the problem, they are great and always have been but I really sense they’ll ultimately be representing us in a losing battle.

The legal and contractual obligations will be interesting to see in upcoming weeks. I’ll be keeping an eye on what happens. I hope my fears are proved wrong so let’s see.

I’m going to make a request, here and now.

We went around and around yesterday in another thread over this.

We ended up with the understanding that, until we see what the teams have in mind, continuing to drone on the topic served no purpose other than to spin folks up.

May I request we do the same here and “take a step back; let them work their magic; and then look at what comes forth from their efforts” ?

I’m sure I’m in the minority but I don’t have any cable subscriptions. My mother and I live in separate households but do share accounts for just a handful of streaming services but we have a schedule planned out for the year of services. Alternating streaming services per month. Meaning that at most, each service gets subscribed at least 3 months out of the whole year. Creating diversity. I don’t watch loads on these services but my mom does.

Obviously, when my mom opened up this Discover on her Roku, I explained what might happen with its features but it wasn’t exactly set in stone. It’s being tested.

When I returned home and did a maintenance check of my moms server, she already knew how to engage with Watchlist using Discover. So, yes, there IS potential there. But I also realized what else was problematic. This huge hellbent problem of platform domination.

I received a phone call from her later that evening asking why she wasn’t able to select a corresponding service to play a movie using Plex like how it was done on her tablet.

Again, this freakin’ thing with Roku policies or it literally could be any major platform that won’t play nice, will cause so much angst with these ongoing features. Again, it’s confusing for those who want it, but then can’t use said feature all because it’s a power play amongst these companies.

While my mom is willing to give it a try, I am not. Im in my 30’s and I sound like an old man telling people to get off my lawn.

While I am paying for subscriptions, its far less than what others are paying and it’s not how I primarily watch content. Plex is but locally.

While she may have not found the x rated content (she didnt use search from what I can tell), it did break the integrity of Plex’s relationship with the admins and users.

I would have, like others, been open to more possibilities but was very cynical and angered from past experiences with rollouts and many other things. Plex has done some great things but the bad out way the accomplishments more so.

@ChuckPa it’s sad you’re being dragged for this. Thank you for the updates.

Yeah to be fair this is absolutely nothing compared to that.

Also though I have vented a lot over the years I just wanna say I appreciate all your communication and seeing this from both an Employee and user viewpoint.

I’ll keep updating the requirements thread (I have some tweaks to make mainly to avoid confusion, and to make sure some comments avoid scope creep), and can be done with the subject for now otherwise.

Unfortunately, it will also mean my Plex server doesn’t do much in the meantime, if this is something that’s going to take weeks despite the clear need (and lack of forethought). I’ll leave it running in the meantime for family without kids running around the house I suppose, just won’t do anything with it myself.

At this point I really can’t feel comfortable with the possibility there’s another issue to be found (to be fair I haven’t been looking since I set the kids account up elsewhere).

But I appreciate something is being done. Let’s hope it’s enough.

It’s always the dang “suits”

lol… Earlier comment was tongue-in-cheeck BTW

Please just let it go for now. Updating will invite more comments and more rebuttals / confusion from others.

Let’s give the engineering teams time to work.

AFTER we see what they did THEN we comment.

Honestly that kind of sounds like ready for repeat issues territory - defining the solution before the requirements is what brought this about in the first place.

Well I guess it is what it is.

Do I need to quote myself ?

Give it a rest.

Requirements will NOT be discussed across multiple threads.
Even thinking a proper set can be done that way is fallacy.

I worked until 12:30am last night. I’m not going to have repeat. Sorry, I have a personal life and it’s almost 6pm now.

This is a Feature Suggestion thread.
The feature is released.

TECHNICALLY, I can close this thread and fold it into the other

You were the one who requested a new thread with those details.

Either way - “Well I guess it is what it is” isn’t opening up for further discussion. That doesn’t change what I think about the design approach - I’ve got a wee bit of experience in the territory of development, so now my expectations are set.

Until the toggle is there, it isn’t, but whatever.

I’m done with all of this.

This isn’t a new thread.

Closing in favor of main thread:

We are working on this request, but it will take a little bit of time, but we’ll have it done as quickly as we can :plexheart:

Thank you for re opening this thread

I am stepping back from this thread.

From here forward, the employees will be interacting with you when they have questions or info.

@DaveBinM Thanks for joining the discussion and giving @ChuckPa sometime to work and step back (Thanks @ChuckPa for all you have been able to tell us)

I can understand this and will respect it to a point, the only question I have is how long did it take to cause this chaos? From What ChuckPa said it was staged …

How long ago did this start to be implemented (without our knowledge) because I feel it could give us a better timeframe of how long to reverse engineer this issue and keeping Plex’s “obligations” I assume?
I only ask this since it seem to come out of left field (at least for me) and was implemented, oddly enough, by someone hitting a switch somewhere in the code.
