[Implemented] Per-Item Analyze option in Plex Dash

Many playback problems can be determined and resolved by hitting the Analyze button on a file via your desktop or laptop. However, when remote users are having problems playing something, of you’ve just sat down on the couch to watch something, and there’s a file problem, having the ability to open Plex Dash and hit Analyze would be very handy. Even more handy if the server owner isn’t home since the process to resolve an issue now is to remote login and screen share to your desktop. This would be an efficient add to Plex Dash.

The ... menu can be used to analyse each library, as below:

The next Dash update will have more granular analysis available, e.g. individual movies, shows, albums etc.

Thank you. I’m aware of that one, problem is when my library is so large, precision is necessary. Having it for individual files will be perfect, really appreciate it.

And it’s out!

Sorry it took so long! There was quite a lot of work involved in the big dependencies upgrades in this release (and the corresponding Plexamp v4.10).

Unfortunately, it doesn’t do anything.

I have an ongoing problem with database queries timing out, causing my codecs to vanish and files become unplayable. The problem was identified and I was told by the outgoing employee they’re hoping to fix it in 1.40.2. This is why I needed this feature, however. I just tried it on a file and it did nothing.

If you take a look at the server logs when you press “analyse” on an item, do you see the analyse taking place?

No. Nothing is happening. In fact, it blanked out my audio codec on the file when I accessed the file in PlexDash.

I opened the desktop browser for the file and the file in PlexDash on my phone. I hit analyze in Plex Dash and nothing happened in the browser. I waited 5 minutes.

Analyze never grayed out as it usually does. Nothing changed. I hit analyze in the desktop browser and it fixed the audio codec, but, per usual, I have to open Get Info, scroll to the bottom and sit there and wait for it to finish “Loading…” so the codecs actually load. Otherwise it times out and never finishes and the file remains unplayable.

sa2000 and I worked tirelessly to figure this out before he left, and my detailed logs finally revealed the cause. He promised they are working on it. and I’m definitely not getting the Big Lebowski treatment. Haha

1.40.2 didn’t fully fix the problem. I’m still getting interminable “Loading…” in Get Info. Files still won’t load or play.

Just wondering… the feature in question for this suggestion has been implemented and appears to be working fine (just tested this with a few items on my own server).
If you’re having issues with PMS failing to analyze files, it might be best to move that to a separate thread in the respective Plex Media Server subcategory (possibly incl. the server logs from such a failed analysis).

I was working with a Plex employee via DM’s but he’s no longer with the company as of the end of March. We found the issue, but he has no ability to provide updates or follow up with the developers since he’s no longer an employee. So I’ve been set adrift. I really don’t feel like starting over since it was exhausting and extensive trying to identify this problem. It literally took over four years to figure this out.

I suppose if you’re keeping it to yourself, all you can do is hope that it’ll be picked up by accident at some point in the future (or not).

I’m waiting for the employee I responded to, this isn’t a forum conversation. It’s not a matter of keeping it to myself, it’s too complicated to even start to explain via a forum thread.
