For the crash issues, what Roku device are you using?
The new version didn’t carry over the video settings of the previous. You might look into changing these to see if it improves playback. Particularly the video quality settings.
Your libraries should now appear under their respective types. For example, Movie should have movie based libraries. If your server is unavailable, you can try setting this to On same network in the Advanced section of the application settings. Another way to see server status is checking out Media Server Status after hitting OK your profile image on the home screen.
You can hide types in the application settings, Home Screen Media Types
You might try changing (lowering) video quality settings to see if playback is better with live TV.
That sounds frustrating, looks like you’re getting network timeouts while we are gathering libraries from your servers. We’ll investigate increasing the timeout a bit more.
I reluctantly tried the new app this morning, and it took forever to load. Waited. Waited. Finally, I checked Plex web, and my friend’s server had gone into “Relay” mode. Even on Plex web, it took some time for it to do whatever it does to connect to a relayed server.
My server loaded instantly on Plex web. Another server shared with me loaded instantly on Plex web. I’m going to assume, it’s because the web app is only querying one server when you select the server.
Please re-think the “all servers, all of the time” idea. Probably works in the lab, doesn’t work as well in the real world,
i have tried to use the new interface for several days now, sorry it doesn’t work. As if it was designed by monkees typing on keyboards. You went backwards with ease of use and design. At least give the option back for a plex retro channel or something.
Basically, yes, I’m getting what amounts to timeouts. From the way it behaves, I’d think there’s some oddity in the handshake, or whatever routine is used to ask the server if it’s alive. This can happen on either server, though it’s more common on the music server, which has some quite large libraries.
This never used to happen with the old apps.
I’m going to be swapping out the box for the music server soon, so I’ll see if that makes much of a difference, I doubt it will, though.
You do understand that ALL apps on Roku update the same way, right? Not saying you have to like the new Plex experience or the timing of it, but the whole automatic update thing without end-user involvement is Roku. Not Plex.
I read in the post that only 2 percent uses the plugins. That is hard for me to believe. But, even if that is accurate, how many people does 2 percent equate to? I know that I am one of those 2 percent and am very much disappointed with the decision to remove the plugins from Roku without having a replacement.
I have now watched an entire episode of a TV Show in Plex Retro without it telling me my network was too slow or seeing a spinning circle of 33% death… I am SOOOO HAPPY
Glad you got what you were hoping for. Unfortunately for everyone this is just damage control from Plex. With the attitudes and people currently at the helm, you will be fighting similar battles in the future. Unless there is a change high up in the chain, expect more of the same. I am deleting my account after writing this post. I cannot support a company that only listens to you by actions of the sword, not the olive branch.
