[implemented] Remote controlling Plexamp v3.x

I’m used to access and play Plexamp 1.1 on two machines. And, boy, was I excited to see it continued and improved. Only to find - to my disappointment - that you haven’t implemented the remote control function. That’s really sad. I love to use my Android app with a nice big screen to select albums and songs and play them remotely via Plexamp. So … remote controlling plexamp to me is a crucial feature.

There are already so many features requests for roll back the vital remote control in Plexamp. Not a new feature as it was implented in old Plexamp client but was removed in newest. Please add remote Plexamp control back we really need this.

Yeah, it’s so good to see I’m in good company.

I love Plexamp for it’s very small footprint as for it’s visuals and resources needed. First I was amazed about the prospect of a new version. Now, I found I even like the old look with its max album view better. But, guess we have to go with the flow. However, I’ll be sticking with 1.1 as long as there’s no remote control in v3.x

Remote control of Plexamp instances, like Plex, is a must for me too. Having an old iPad that needs to stay plugged to the mains all the time, usually far from where I’m listening to music, specially in a multiform environment.
I’m also using Home-Assistant a lot, having a media player card with controls for Plexamp is a must too.

We’re at Version 3.3 and I still cannot use my phone or tablet to remote controll a plexamp instance running on a mac (hooked up to my stereo). So there I’m still clinging on to trusty old Plexamp 1.1 which is sad.

Still not available with Version 3.4.1

Thanks for the (rather sad) update. I understand the developers dropping stuff not needed when they reydesigned Plexamp almost from scratch. And, boy, they’ve done a great job … except … well, except for the missing remote control functionality.
I simply don’t get it. We can’t be the only ones running a plexamp hooked up to a stereo or amp/speaker wishing to access and controll it via mobile devices. But … I won’t give up hope. There must be a good soul listening at Plex.

The dev team is steadily working on Plexamp. Great and much appreciated!
However … still no remote controlling in sight. Such a sad story as it once was implemented. So I still have to use the trusty rusty 1.1 version on the remote machine. :frowning:

I need your vote! Pls join in.
'Cause I don’t give up hope. Yet, we’re at version 3.4.5 and still no remote control function back. And this “back” is what’s nagging me: Remote control used to be there. It is still a functional part of the GUI but … not implemented. @everyone: Please join in and vote for this feature request.

Would be nice to see a reply from Plex staff about this. Are there any plans for this to be added in the next 12 months?

Yes, I’m getting tired and more and more frustrated: We’re at 3.5 and still no sign a feature that used to be implemented would be coming back.
To say it loud and clear: Without remote controlling playback on my stereo with a mobile device the whole Plex-system is completely useless to me. I do have iTunes on my Mac - I do not need another local player.
Also, I would switch back to using Plex (the original player) in a minute … where it not for the sad fact that remote controll has been taken away here, too.

Just as an update: After the inner workings of the Plex server recently changed my trusty old Plexamp 1.1 stopped working. Now my remote controlling’s last resort is gone for good.

As soon as I find a working alternative I’ll write my lifetime Plex Pass off and will switch to something to fullfill my today’s needs. With Plex I never expected this to happen and I’m truly disappointed.

I’m afk at the moment so it’s a little difficult for me to grab you a link, but the change you’re talking about is related to a certificate expiry, and not a Plex change. There are a couple of forum threads with how-to guides for resolving the issue and getting 1.1 working again.

FWIW, I know the Plexamp team is working on the prerequisites for bringing back controllability to 3.x. While I can’t give you a timeframe, I can tell you it’s a feature the team deems important.

Thanks, I’ll hunter after the how-to-guides than. Your feedback from the team means a lot to me. Because deep in my heart I still love the whole Plex platform, esp. Plexamp. I do not want to give up but I need to control “my stereo” in the living room.

+1

This feature should be a priority now.

I’m positive, it will be back with version 4.0. Somewhere Elan, too, was talking about the feature being reintroduced. So, I guess we’ll have to be patient. But thanks for supporting the request!
