I’m using Plex now for 6 years, and I think I have experience in the field.
I love Plex, it’s an amazing tool for watching movies & tv, listen music or remember memories with photos. But after years of use, I found that Plex has some pretty significant missing features.
Plex is globaly HEAVY, and it lacks fluidity especially on new players that have not yet been used.
Also there’s no true Multi-version movie support. I personally have the Middle-Earth collection (LOTR + TH) in Theatrical AND Extended version (and many others movies but it was for an example). Plex just indicate me the movie as a duplicate file. I know this feature isn’t made especially for this and I should use multiple library, but it’s not user-friendly, build a library for 5/6 movies in different version is stupid. The feature should implement a tag (or something like this) during film analysis like choose movie version: “Theatrical”, “Director’s Cut”, “3D”, etc. Then the player may shown theses “tags”.
Next I’d like to speak about metadatas. Why in 2020 we don’t have automatically description, PG, and artworks (poster & background) in collections from TMDb ? (And eventually linked collections, and theme) 2 possibilities: First, Plex let users to choose if they want metadata completely and just creating the collection with the title. Second, it import all metadatas for the collection and the user customize after like for movies now. Finally I still don’t know why in TVShows why we don’t have the support for seasons summary and for extras.
